Friday morning at Sheepiepalooza

I'm going to arrive at Sheepiepalooza Friday morning between 10 and noon. Will anyone else be at the hotel or do I have to sit at the picnic table by myself? I decided to have an adventure and leave Thursday after work, drive a few hours, spend the night on the road (well, not ON the road, but in a hotel somewhere in downstate Illinois) and finish the drive Friday morning.

I'll be there Paula.
And I think David & Kim will be, too.
We will be there too! We are arriving Thursday. :D
I should be there between 12 - 1 on Friday. See you at the picnic tables
We will be there too! Arriving Thursday.
we should be there Thursday night. :clappurple:
We will be there Thursday, tornadoes permitting. We will keep a look out for you!
We're also arriving Thursday night! See you all there!
You are all making me kind of jealous. Sounds like it will be a nice bunch for a party at the picnic table. :D

I'm jealous too...if we show up Friday afternoon with a cooler of beverages can we expect a good receiving party? :excited:

Or maybe they will be all over-indulged and fallen off the picnic table...and we can take it over!! :high5:

Plan for me and the boys is still to get there Friday mid-afternoon.
I will be at an agility trial at Purina Farms with Harry that day. It is always a bumpy ride when we are in the agility ring. Which means I will probably need a stiff drink after it is all over. I may have to stop by the hotel on my way back. :lmt:

Hmm, do they allow people and their dogs to go and watch such a trial?

that's what I was thinking, too! We can show up and drunkenly cheer Harry on!!!!! :cheer: :sidestep:
I'm so jealous..

The party bus won't be arriving until later Friday.
Fully stocked bar.

I'll answer for Judi -

YES, you can go spectate to your heart's content.... an agility trial is always super fun to watch (in my opinion, anyway) but when you actually know a dog or dogs, it's even more fun!

I'm not sure about the Purina Farm's Event Center's policy for non-entered dogs - they may or may not be OK w/ it. :? Dogs may need to be left home.
The general policy at dog shows is that non-entered dogs are not allowed at the show site. If it was one very calm discreet (Sheepdogs are too high profile) dog you could get away with it. But no way could we have a group of Sheepdogs in there. I would get in big trouble.

However, if you even think you would like to try agility competition this would be a golden opportunity to learn more about it. There is a lot of downtime between runs so I would really be able to give you time between the time that Harry and I are in the ring to explain things while we watch other dogs and handlers.

So I would like to make the following suggestion - if anyone is interested in coming out to watch for a bit and can find someone to watch their dogs for a little while then I would love to have you out there. I will be there from about 8:00 until at least 2:00. I have three classes I am entered in so it would be possible for people to even come in two groups if for example David and Kim both wanted to learn more but had to take turns. You would get to see Harry run once and the next group could possible be out there before Harry's next run.

The facility is really cool and will be the sight of the 2013 OESCA National Specialty. It is only about 25 minutes from the hotel and probably worth the trip if you are at all interested in this sort of thing.
On Friday afternoon, Val, Monica, and I will be at the hotel with our sheepies waiting for everyone to arrive. Can't wait!!!!
I am so jealous. I will still be dealing with high school students Friday afternoon!
Have lots of fun. We will be there as soon as we can get there after school is out.

Carley's Mom
Rocky and I will be there on Thursday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the table on Friday 8) Seeing Judi and Harry compete would be so much fun as well as educational for us, would love to spectate with anyone. Perhaps we can split into groups and ride together?
Well, shoot, if you're all going to see Judi and Harry, who will be waiting for ME Friday morning?????
I'll wait for you, Paula! As much as i'd love to go and see Judi and Harry, I don't think I'd feel right driving all the way from Atlanta and then leaving Tonks and Luna alone in the hotel room. So I'll be hanging out waiting to see everyone!
As much as I'd love to see Harry perform, we wont be leaving the girls anywhere, so we'll be around Friday morning.
Would love to see Harry but won't leave the sheepies alone! I will be there Friday morning!
I'm with everyone else. Don't want to leave the boys alone.
I will also be there on Friday.
You are not allowed to leave the dogs alone in the hotel room anyway.
Can't leave the dogs alone in the room...really? Not that I would, but what about folks coming solo. They would need to leave to get stuff out of the car...go for breakfast...
Depending on what time I get going Friday morning, Teddy and I should be there between 1pm & 2pm.

I'm sure it means "don't the leave alone in the room for an extended period of time." Going to the car would be fine.

We left Mady crated in the room last year to go out to dinner with Val the first night we arrived. So I think it really depends on how well-behaved your dog(s) is/are. e.g. dog is going to bark non-stop and destroy the bedding it's more of a problem.

But everything else we did we had Mady with us, which was sort of the point.

Seriously, how do you KNOW that your dog is well behaved while crated and you're away? :lmt:

We've left Nelson at our condo a couple of times alone and he looked so innocent when we left. We later learned from neighbors that he barked the entire time!   Now, either he goes, we stay or someone comes to entertain him.

Point being, if it's a hotel rule, it should be followed. One person's selfishness could ruin the future of the entire event and you would end up being a very unpopular person. There are always people willing to dogsit for others so why not take advantage? Traveling with a pet does require compromises.

I know that Mady doesn't bark when she's crated. She's never barked while crated. I know my dogs, thank you. :tea: Gracie might bark, but when she was left alone in the hotel room (un-crated btw) a week ago at the dog show, her behaviour was great. And honestly, this is the first I've heard of this rule, it's not like we were knowingly flaunting it, and I'd be very surprised if the hotel really cared. They don't willingly host a dog convention and then complain about dogs barking. And last time we were at a hotel with Gracie, the drunken kids partying in the room next door all night were much much louder than any dog would be.
I have to say, traveling on my own, if I can't crate the dogs in the room and go to get a meal, HOW am I supposed to eat? Pack picnic style meals in a cooler for the entire time we're away (with the exception of planned meal events, of course)?

I recall that the first hotel we stayed at (I think it was Sheepie Palooza's second year) had great little signs you could put on the door for house keeping; they said something like "dog inside, do not disturb". Not being able to leave the dogs in the room, even if crated, is definitely inconvenient to any of us traveling solo.
Speaking of packing picnic style meals... I was thinking of bringing Sangria fixings for our Friday "hanging out" crowd! If i can get a head count, Ill have a better idea of how many to plan for. So; who's arriving Thursday night? To be honest, if I can't leave my girls to go grab a breakfast, maybe I'll bring something nice for us all to eat too! If we're all going to sit and wait most of the day for our sheepie pals to arrive, I say we do it in ULTIMATE comfort- drinks in hand and yummy snacks to eat!!!
Allison, I'll be quite happy to set up a picnic bar with you on Friday (or hell, Thursday night!) Missouri has some of the loosest alcohol laws in the US, it's perfectly legal to enjoy Sangria and cocktails in public spaces!

I'm also tempted to try out Amigos Cantina Thursday night or Friday lunch or something, the Mexican place the 3 sheepie amigos ate at:

5 miles from the Pear Tree Inn
Hollaaa!

We will be around Thursday night too—probably arriving Thursday afternoon. I say we have a little pre-palooza mixer... :yay:
I have a recipe for Margarita filled cupcakes. It's like a Margarita jello shot inside of a cupcake.
I think I might make those for snack time.

Sadly David, Amigo's only has three tables outside in a small area so they would not be able to accomodate you. Not to mention they are in a section of St. Louis that is not entirely dog friendly so it is always best to be low key.

There is a really great Mexican restaurant near where we will be on Friday night which can hold a larger group of people that we might give a try if we get there early enough.

Since Sheepiepalooza doesn't officially start until late Friday afternoon can I suggest that Thursday evening you give the dogs a chance to relax after a long journey and before a long, busy weekend and order pizza in. Then you can party at the hotel where people who are arriving a day early can join in as they arrive.
We will arrive Thursday afternoon and I will be glad to contribute to the party! I can bring Margarita mix and Tequila and some limes of course! I will also bring snacks to go with!

David--we are ALWAYS up for Mexican and would love to join you if you go Thursday night--it might just be me and Murphy for dinner if David goes to the ballgame--but we can find the Mexican Restaurant that will hold more people!

I wonder if that restaurant does take out. That way we could have a picnic at the picnic table out back.
We won't arrive until Friday afternoon, but will be bringing a mixed case of beer from a local brewery. :D

Good idea! We can check that out!
I'm kinda jealous of all the fun that is going to be happening and I CAN'T GO!!!! :( :( :( :( Not only will I not be meeting lots of great people, and sheepies (sheepies I might have a tendancy to bring home extras  ) bidding the auction but not being able to party as well. OMG, I have never had margarita cupcakes (yum)!!  Just all the good company   ..............................
Everybody travel safe, have some cocktails and snackies for me and be sure to POST LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTRRES!!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Judi, here's a question that maybe you can answer for us. Since we have paid for passes to the French Town Dog Park for Friday through Sunday, can we take our dogs to the park on Friday morning? Or are we limited to going when the group goes?
I think I remember something about needing to be with a member of the park to gain access... and my recollection is that Judi is the only member of the park.

There are a few free dog parks in the area in case we want to go to a park and can't get into the French Town. There's one in St. Charles and one near Wentzville.
I hate missing great threads and trying to catch up

We will be there on Thursday afternoon, and will bring picnic supplies too.
Any suggestions?

Positively cannot wait :yay: :excited:
I just bought my sangria fixings! I'm making a riesling peach sangria; what goes well with that?

Ahhh--that sounds good! I would think some really nice soft cheese and good crackers would go well with that!
it does; but will it keep out in the heat and the sun is my concern!
If we have a cooler handy--we should be able to manage it--

There are probably easier options as well! :D
'm so sad i'm not coming. so wanted to see everyone and for all the babies to get together. it's just financially impossible and the income here has not been arriving and there is nothing else i can do to make him send it.
I did just get the silent auction box off of items from Canada.
Have fun and someday maybe they can all get together.
Paula~I can be there Friday morning around 11am.

See you there!
It says there's a Panera (St. Louis Bread company) only 2 miles from the hotel. These often have outdoor seating areas. Maybe we can go there to have breakfast on Friday morning. OR they do great take out; we could do a run for breakfast sandwiches, bagels or pastries! Y'know, to have with our breakfast cocktails.
