When to start to stress

Simon and I are signed up for another agility comp. Its May 20th.

Every time I think about it I get nervous. We are only going ONE day(thats all my nerves can handle). When I think about last time and he only Q'd once BUT got second place, I want that again, but then I think thats too much pressure, but if we did it once, we can do it again....and on and on.

Too much stressing...or too little

Let's rephrase that to "how to I manage to de-stress"?

The more stressed you are, the less fun it is for him. Not what you want him to go home thinking. So we need to put together a Pam De-stressing program ;-)

Besides, if you start stressing NOW, you'll be exhausted by May 20th ;-)

Break it down into things you can control. It's outdoors. Are you bringing a tent or parking him with my girls under my tent? :-) What type of crate? How early will you get there? (once the schedule is known) What kind of warm-up does he need? What kind of warm-up (physical and mental) do YOU need?

Do you have friends who will show you where to pick up your armband and course maps? (check) Do you know to dress in layers for any kind of weather? (grass can be frosty in morning, yet it can be mid 80s and humid by afternoon) Good shoes? I sometimes bring out soccer shoes with cleats at this particular venue, but that's probably overkill) Do you know if they are serving food or do you need to bring some? (typically some breed rescue serves food as a fundraiser for them) What kind of treats will you bring? Favorite tug toy? Etc etc.

Channel the stress into planning so you feel as confident as you possibly can, and then just run and have fun. The Qs will take care of themselves when everything else falls into place.

Leave it to Kristine to put a postive spin on the issue! Great ideas! I need to take your advice & apply it to my own areas of competition. Then maybe I can start enjoying it again! :lmt:
I'm reading through Kristine's commentary, and I don't know if it was just me, bifocals or WHAT....but, I read the sentence
"Do you have friends who will show you where to pick up your armband and course maps? (check)"

as:

"Do you have friends who will show you where to pick up your husband and course maps? (check)"

8O

OMG, I'm losing it!
^^^^^
Yeah Dawn, you're losing it.
It would read do you have friends to show you where to drop off your husband and pick up course maps. :P
