Pink Nose

Calling all pink-nosed sheepie owners....does your dog's nose go from light pink to fuchsia? When Oscar wakes up, his nose and the skin around his eyes are a lovely shade of light pink, but frequently, throughout the day, his nose turns to bright fuchsia. Sometimes it occurs during times of high energy (his!), but other times he'll just be laying there, looking like Rudolph.

I am concerned that he might have an allergy problem, except that he doesn't chew on himself, or show other signs of discomfort. Just the berry nose. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Hi,

It's been over a year since Merlin lost his pink nose...gawd I miss that little striped nose! I don't recall if it changed color with more activity or not but I know with people we often get that flushed look with excercise, so could be that.

How old is Oscar? They usually have their pink noses as young pups but all of the pink is gone by the time they are a year old. One thing I do notice however with my dogs is after a lot of racing around the woods they pant and their nostrils flare. It is then I see the pink inside their nostrils..LOL.

Hi Marianne.

Oscar just turned a year old on May 1. The tip of his nose has gone mostly black (85%), but he's pink-skinned on his snout, as well as around his eyes, so there's quite a bit of "pinkness" showing. Any ideas?

Thanks!
Simone is about 6 or 7 and has a pink snout and a pink eye......little pig eye. Yes, the area around her eye changes color depending on her excitement or heat level. The snout changes withs sunburn, but I've never noticed it changing like the eye area.

It still will most likely have less and less pink as he ages, however, my girl Sky has absolutely no pigment around her eyes. Because of all the fur hanging over them, I rarely see them and am unaware if the color changes etc.
Dancer took over a year before her nose was completely black, but it did happen.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, our own skin gets flushed with exercise, so that is probably all it is. However, exposure to more carbon monoxide turns mammal blood bright cherry red. Do you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home?
