OH NO!

I really need some advice. My dog lenny is around 14 months now and we thought he had out grown his constant shoe stealing and chewing of the house. BUT i wake up this morning and my mum tells me that he has eaten her shoe. Literally! He ate the inside sole and all the toe area. I just dont know what to do with him now. Plus he always wees when he gets excited so if people come into the house whether it be from 5 mins to new people he runs round loopy and trickles everywhere. Is there anything i can do for these issues?

First, when you say "eaten" do you mean he shredded it or swallowed it? If the parts are missing you need to take him to the vet immediately. We very nearly lost ours to an intestinal blockage (and I do mean nearly lost...even the vet said after the fact that his survival was miraculous).

Ours will swallow just about anything, but his passion is socks, so even now, not quite two years later, socks and anything that size or smaller are put away.

So, for your dog's safety and your peace of mind, don't leave temptation where he can find it. He may outgrow the chewing in time, but for now all shoes need to be in a closet with the door closed.

Chewing and submissive peeing are both anxiety based. Practice being in charge, having him have to follow your instructions. He'll calm down and be less nervous when you are in charge. Also tons of exercise will keep him busy and tire him out. That reduces the amount of nervous energy he has to burn.

Take him out for a pee before he meets anyone new, so at least he's got limited fluid to release when he does pee. Have people greet him silently. No noise, no patting, don't even look (yes, that's a restatement of a classic Cesar line, but it works). Never lean over him, as that will trigger submission. And no high pitched cooing or baby talk or singsong voices....that sends the wrong message.

Part of the work you need to do is work on sit/stay constantly, so that you can put him in that pose when he meets others. If he's sitting and staying he won't be peeing. And it will comfort him to know what he's supposed to be doing.

At fourteen months there's lots you can do to fix this. I'm sure that you'll get tons of good advice on this board. Good luck.
Hello,

One of our Airedale Terriers was responsible for the marks on the hardwood floors. Since I never saw this behaviour, but lived with two women(daughter and wife), their word was good enough for me.

Seems when I was at work, and the girls were in 'charge' Ch. Brigsdale's Ramrod, called Rodney would just drip out something. The Veterinarian suggested neutering him. I needed to clear it with the breeder and it was a tough decision. But it worked for this situation.

I really dont want to neuter him because im hoping later on to stud him out as he has a fantastic temperament. He doesnt swallow things he just shreds them up. We have brought him toy after toy but he just keeps going for my mums shoes. He doesnt do it to anyone elses shoes though which is weird. We all keep out trainers at the bottom of the stairs and he never touchs them but when he wanders upstairs he chews my mums shoes. Even if i leave my door open with my slippers on the floor he wont touch them.
