Lycra

Hi,
I just bought a beautiful Black 100% Lycra Dress for a party I am going to tomorrow. The problem is I ordered it online and it's a little big.
The washing directions say hand wash in cold water. I was wondering if it's possible to shrink Lycra, by washing in warm or hot water.
Does anyone have any info about this?
Thanks,
Elissa

I think you can wash lycra...but if you wash it in warm water and put it in the dryer, I think it breaks down the elastisity of the fabric..One time would be okay, but I dont think it will shrink it and depending on what you paid for the dress, I might be a little hesitant to try it...Does the dress hang off of you??? If it is still a little clingy, I'd probably still wear it, and it might be more comfortable!!! :D
Darcy,
It does hang a bit losely where it should cling and the neck strap is quite loose and is not adjustable. I would bring it to a Tailor but the party is tomorrow... It does look good but it would look better a little smaller.
If anyone else knows whether it would shrink?
Thanks,
Elissa
Take some darts!

(Not that I've ever, er, um sewed...)
Lycra WON'T shrink and the heat of the dryer might actually melt it!!!!! Ron's got the right idea....... get out the sewing machine. OR, you could just eat alot between now and then................
Thanks Tasker's Mom and Ron,
 I don't know how to sew. My Mom is not very domestic and we didn't have those classes in school.
Oh well... I guess I am going to wear a big dress. I'll take it to the Tailor after the party. At least the next time I wear it it will look great.

Safety pins................. :?
Personally I like the idea of just eating alot...............
Clothes too big is a problem I'd love to have! LOL
I would return it and get a smaller size if you have time and can....
Stacey, I ordered it according to their sizing chart so it should have fit perfectly... Also bought it on clearance...by the time I return it and get something else I will have spent more money than I should have.
Might as well keep it and have it fitted correctly.
Shouldn't be too much money.
Tasker's Mom, I'm still trying to loose weight after having the baby...
Also I just started Trim Spa so eating a lot is out of the question. But it is a good idea...lol

Elissa, How does that trim spa work???? I bought a bottle of it, tried it for a few days and didnt notice anything...however....if anna nicole can lose weight on it ...............do you take it before every meal or just one time a day....there was no info on the bottle, infact Im looking at it right now ....all of my summer clothes are too tight :( and i need to lose 8lbs...personally atkins works pretty well, its just getting back into the no carb routine sigh!!!
Well, if you are ordering a Lycra dress then you must be younger, so this probably won't work:

Eat a bag of potato chips and drink then drink alot. The salt will prevent the water from leaving your body, you'll swell up and the dress will fit perfectly!
In reading about lycra......and remembering accidently throwing a swim suit in the dryer.........don't use heat. It stretched.

If the stuff you have is what I think it is......take the dress off a hanger! The longer it hangs, the more it stretches. Truly the only way to make it smaller with with a needle and thread.......or a wide belt.
Darcy,
I have been on the Trim Spa for three days and have noticed that my appetite is a lot less. I find myself getting full really quickly. I also just need to lose about 8 lbs. The direction are take two in the morning, one at noon and one in the evening. I figured if it worked for Anna Nicole it would work for me...lol
The last time I needed to lose weight after having my son I used Yellow Jackets by the makers of Stacker 2. It worked wonders and I lost about 20 lbs in 2 months. Unfortunately I don't think they make it anymore because it had ephedra in it. It did make me jittery but it worked.
SheepieBoss,
Thanks for the advice... I am 31 yrs old and just had my second child...believe me this dress is not form fitting...It's an A-line just nice and very light material and kind of hangs... No way would I be wearing tight fitting clothes right now. I just had a baby 4 months ago and have some to serious body toning to do besides loosing the 8 lbs. Eating won't really help... It's loose around the neck, the strap is too long so it doesn't sit right. I don't think anyone will notice.

Hi Elissa,

Not sure if it would work or not, but you could purchase velcro the kind that you peel and stick to perhaps bypass sewing. I'm sure you'll look great in your dress and have fun at your party!

Elissa-

How did your dress work out?
I ended up wearing a different dress.
It all worked out fine. Now I'll just get the other one altered and I can wear it to next party...whenever that will be
