Jazzy has heart disease...?

Anyone any advice.

Oh, so sad!!! I've known several with that and both lived beyond the expected time. Give her lots of nose kisses for me and :ghug: for you.

Docs are positive? You've been to a cardiologist?? Paige was diagnosed with heart problems by a vet here, not my ususal and a trip to the cardiologist said no. She lived another 3 years but died suddenly in her sleep......so might have been something there afterall, but not what the first vet thought.

Yes the guys a top cardiologist but can't commit to a span at all....

She's home now with a bagfull of medicine so we can only keep our fingers crossed, I just wondered if it was common in the greed because her sister Molly is the same age so that's a worry too....
I don't have any first hand experiences I can share... just wanted to say I'm very sorry about the diagnosis.
:ghug:

It does sound like Jazzy's in the most capable hands. I would ask the cardiologist whether Molly needs to be checked.

There's a good article on the condition here-

Please keep us posted on how you and Jazzy are doing.
:ghug: :ghug:

so sorry...we are here for you...

:ghug:
Awww! No! That is such bad news but I am hoping that with proper treatment, she can continue to live a full and happy life. She is clearly well-loved. I'm so sorry.
Keep giving her the medicine, take it easy with her - no prolonged running or heavy exercise and love her lots. I don''t know about the illness in dogs but I am very familiar with it in humans and the advances in the last few years have been amazing. Hopefully the medication will provide some help to her condition

:ghug: for you and Jazzy
So sorry. Hope the medicine is effective. Hugs to you both. :ghug: :ghug:
I hope the medication does the trick and that she lives a long and happy life. In the meantime, send her hugs and kisses from me! :ghug:
i'm so sorry. :( My first OES passed away from cardiomyopathy. She was (barely) 11 and it was still heartbreaking.

That said, considering checking your girl's thyroid. it may be a long shot, but...

I was talking to a vet. cardiologist at the WI vet school a few years ago, they do cardiac screening, and she was telling me about a study she was involved in on DCM, there was a lone middle-aged OES included, and for some reason they figured out that the dog was hypothyroid, the dog was medicated for that, the DCM progression was halted and even reversed to some extent, and the dog outlived all of the other dogs (other breeds) in the study by several years. Now when she gets dogs in for cardiomyopathy, and especially breeds concurrently at high risk for hypothyroidism, such as ours, she checks their thyroid function just in case....

Kristine -- that is so interesting! It would be so great if that turns out to be the case with Jazzy. :hearts:
Thank you all for your kind thoughts, I think she is in the best hands the vet have a specialist cardiologist who visits lots of surgerys so is a top guy.

She seem ok today although very tired, she has only been on the meds for one full day so hopefully they will kick in and make her feel better.

Thank you all again.
Thinking of you and Jazzy.

:ghug: Best wishes from us.
I hope this is better than it looks right now. :hearts: :crossed:
Hi All, well...... Jaz has been on the meds for a few weeks now and she seems fine.....yippee

The doc is VERY happy with her progress and has now said he doesn't need to see her for a couple of months which is GREAT NEWS...... She seem fine in her self so were all very happy for her at the moment...he has said NO long walks at the moment... But she has a little toddle out on the front field for a few minutes so she's fine.

A word of warning though.....make sure you have insurance for your loved one.(not the wife) ha ha...
So far this treatment has cost £2798.00 so thank god we had her covered.

Hope you and your fluffy people are all fine.

Cheers
I'm glad she is doing better!!
Great news, hope she continues to get better.
So glad that she is doing well! :clappurple:
That's very good news. :D
Continued well wishes to her.

And you're right... one less worry if you carry a good insurance policy. :phew:

I am so sorry to report that Jaz passed away on 7th July 2013....

WE LOVE YOU JAZ...........
Oh, I'm so sorry!! You have her a chance but the problems were too great. A few weeks, a few months hardly seem enough. I have heard of dogs of all breeds having heart conditions. It happens. My Paige was a Great Pyr. The other dog that had a heart attack was an Irish Wolfhound, so I know how the suddenness takes your breath away. My condolences, we will miss hearing about Jaz.
I am so very sorry for your loss. :ghug:
so very sorry rip jazzy
Glad to hear she is doing better  Where do you live? I would think the heat is not good for her.

As far as your other dog, is it from the same litter? I would call the breeder and see of it is running in the pedigree. Plus, I'm sure the breeder would want to know - for future breedings.

Sending prayers she continues to improve. :ghug:
I'm sorry for your loss.

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
So very sorry for your loss. Jazz had this last year, and I know that you both lived it to the fullest each day. What a wonderful gift :hearts:
Hoping you will find gentle comfort in those memories soon. :ghug:
Sending my thoughts and prayers. I read this post and at first heard she was better...so sorry to hear of your loss.
Good news, may she continue to improve........or at least not degrade further.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. We never have enough time with them.
:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:

Carley's Mom
Sorry ...........I knew she died, I just got stuck on the good news earlier. You did well by her, giving her that extra time. I hope it was sudden and she didn't suffer. As for you, the pain will lessen, but not for awhile.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss.
Wishing you happy memories and a peaceful heart. :ghug:
So very sorry for your loss. :ghug:
Sad times. You were the best mum in the world to her.x
