Bad night with diarrhoea

Hi
I wonder if anyone has any advice. I have a 4 month OES. He was very unwell last night with sickness and diarrhoea. This is the second time it has happened. The last time was about a month ago. Do dogs get tummy bugs? Or could it be something he has eaten. I feed him Royal Canin and a few doggy treats. I take him for walks off lead in the fields near my home so I am not sure if he could have eaten something when i wasn't looking but I can't think what he could have got. Any suggestions would be great.

If he's still really sick I'd see the vet now and not wait until they open on Monday. Puppies can dehydrate quickly if liquids are coming out both ends.

Most pups can and will eat anything they find if given the opportunity. Puppies explore with their mouths, everything goes in and some stuff will be eaten if we aren't quick enough to stop them.

I think it's difficult for any of us to say for sure what's caused your pup's sickness. It could just be something that just didn't settle right, maybe he got a hold of something decaying. It could also be something like giardia, coccidia, worms. I have two that as puppies found a decaying rabbit one spring as the snow thawed and joyfully ran around with it until I confiscated it. Ick. We had diarrhea that kept recurring and we could never get a diagnosis despite numerous stool cultures but I believe it was giardia. Panacur finally got rid of it for good. Then too, your pup's sickness may not be related to the playing in the field at all. It's why a vet should take a look and also test a stool sample if this hasn't yet been done... especially if it's recurring.

You may need to leash him and supervise more closely until he's gotten past this mouth-on-everything exploration stage. Hoping all will be well.
Agree with jaci, definately off to the vets as that age they can go down hill really fast. Dont give any food but keep the water up so he does not de-hydrate.

If you can take a stool sample along to the vets to see what's going on with the lil man.
Thanks for that, he is a lot better today, but I will get him checked out.
