Earhair Plucking: To do or not to do...that is the question

So i've heard so many mixed things on this that I figured I'd start a post. I know there is a "how to" but how many of you pluck vs. dont pluck the hair

I was always told it must be done. I was really freaking out about doing it but after being shown how to do it by Marilyn, I've gotten pretty good at it. Caitlyn still thinks its the worst thing to get up on the table for, but Zoey is totally cool with it and barely flinches.

I pluck Ryleighs while she is laying on my lap watching tv. Shes doesnt mind it at all.
I had neglected Jack's ears and when he was in for his under-the-car-booboo check up. The vet looked in his hears and said, "Way too hairy in there." So we are back at it. I remove a bit each time and never every clean immediately before or afterwards least the solution burn where the hair came/or will come out. I forgot the other day and he was a most unhappy boy.
I lost my forceps so use my eyebrow plucker or just my fingers but the hair must be dry to hand pluck. Some find twisting the hairs to be less bothersome for the dog than pulling straight out.
If you use the powder they don't even notice. So much easier just comes out like "nothing".
Some dogs are hairier than others in there.

Chewie is not that bad - I only do his maybe every 4-6 months, and that's it.

Bond is the opposite - he's one hairy dude already. I've done his ears 3 times already in the 2 months I've had him, and he's actually due again. And when he gets all hairy, the ear wax and dirt build up and it's nasty in a couple days. If I let it go any longer I'm sure he would get an ear infection. :(
He's not that thrilled with the whole process, but I told him to get used to it, as it's going to be a lifelong thing.

I was told this also.
Whether you do it or your Vet or your groomer - someone MUST do it. I missed some hair a while back on Caity's and it was discovered while at Marilyn's... I'll be honest, while I thought I was doing good, it clearly wasn't good enough.

Also check the size of the canals.....small openings are prone to getting infected faster. Jack and Harry have 6 lane highways going into their head, good air exchange. MO is a narrow country road going in.....I must be on the ball with her. Yeah the powder does help you grab hold for finger plucking.
Mine get their ears plucked at least every 2 weeks, sometimes more.
eurggh the gross part. im happy you posted this. i hadnt plucked bloos ears and when karen did i was amazed at how much came out clogged with wax! i think he enjoted being tickled lol
must admit i havent done it since last month, id rather buy a tub of ear wipes and just keep em clean. xx sam
Sam you must pull them. Sorry to say this you bad Girl
Sam by just cleaning your pushing the hairs into the ears. Plucking is basically a once a month job or the hairs arnt long enough.
Billy tells me when his need doing, he rubs them on me!
I use plucking powder and my fingers
I have heard that plucking with forceps or tweezers is no longer the right thing to do, but that hair that comes out easily in your fingers is fine. My vet heard this at a recent conference she attended.
When i used to have Violet's ears plucked, she used to get a lot of ear infections. So the Vet and I had a chat and we decided not to pull the hair out of her ears anymore. I do keepthem clean, but no plucking.
