Can't Sleep

Yes, I'm up at 4:00 a.m. I took Beau out and now I can't get back to sleep but, apparently he has no problem.

He doesn't sleep through the night and this has been going on since I brought him home when he was 8 weeks old and now, he's 6 months old.

I keep him up until 11:30 p.m. and he still gets me up at 3:00 a.m. I don't let him have any water prior to bedtime.

Any sugguestions out there?

Is he crated at night? If so...and this will sound hars....ignore him. He's trained you and now you need to turn it around! If he's not crated at night, you may want to.
I have to agree, just ignore him. He's trained you to get up at 3:00 a.m. I had the same problem with my Beau for awhile - only it was 2:30 a.m. . I finally realised, after about a week and a half, what was going on. So, for about two or three nights in a row, I just let him whine, whimper and bark at 2:30 until finally he realised I wasn't coming to take him out. I knew he was fine, it was just habit. After that, we've slept through the night with no problem. :D
No Red Bull after 6 PM?

Maybe covering the crate in a blanket/towel/sheet might work (if you have the collapsable wire crate).
I agree, ignoring him might be the way to go. If you're worried that he won't make it, maybe try lengthening the time before you let him out by an hour each day to get him better adjusted.

Also, are you sure he really has to go or is he just bored? Clyde wants to play at about 6 a.m. (I don't get up until 7:30) and I mistook it for having to go out everytime he scratched at the baby gate. After about a half an hour (the most annoying half an hour ever I might add) he just lies down and goes back to sleep. Don't get me wrong, he will go if I take him out but it turns out he won't go in the house if he waits either.
Yes, he is crated. He actually does have to pee. However, starting tonight, I will take everyone sugguestions and just let him cry.

Thanks everyone, for the input, it is very much appreciated.

Pleasant dreams (I hope)

I have a question regarding this subject...Panda sleeps outside most nights, in her dog house. However, on nights that my husband is at work, I let her sleep inside with me (Shhhh..dont tell Brian :D ) She has never been able to spend the whole night inside  She wakes me up about 12:30 and I either just let her out or if I tell her to go back to bed, then every 2 hours she'll lick me awake  Do you think it is possible to get her to sleep thru the night inside or is she now a outside sleeper only? There is no crate inside, only a comfy doggie bed.....
Hi Everyone,

Took your advice last night and let Beau cry and he went back to sleep and I didn't get up until 5:30 a.m. this morning. How great is that! :D

Thanks for helping.

Bravo! I woke up at 4:30 this morning and wondered how it was going. Weird, I know.

She's probably used to her routine and it feels strange to her to change it. Both of mine sleep in the same place in the house every night-- no matter where we settle in for the evening. Even if they start out in my bed, they wind up in the places that they're used to. I always equate it to me falling asleep on the couch. Sure I can sleep there, but I'd just rather be in my own bed that I'm used to!

Just thinking that she can relieve herself whenever she wants to while outside, but inside she knows the rule. Perhaps she doesn't have the bladder control for the evening. Otherwise she may just like it outside, esp if the house is too warm, and wants to stay out there. If you want to try and keep her in, put her in a crate beside the bed, and ignore her like the others said.
Daisie, It's definately cooler inside than out...we live in arizona...but you may be right about her lack of pm bladder control...oh well, a few hours with her is better than none :D
