We got a rescue

Long ago, we had sheepdogs that helped raise our daughters. It was time to get another dog -- we're retired, live next to a city park, have a grand dog, a god dog, and a niece dog who visit regularly and stay with us when their people go on vacation. Without a dog, we had dog food, treats, doggie dental things, ear medicine, grooming tools, dishes, leashes, and a variety of doggie toys.

We thought about all the breeds we'd be interested in. We decided on a rescue. We weren't looking for another OES. We met Saints, a newfie, Danes, and big dogs of uncertain parentage at Gentle Giants Rescue.

Then the OES bounded out, bounced around, came to us, and immediately gave us giant cuddles. We named him Mats (a gentle reminder about regular grooming and the original state of his coat).

The rescue org claims he's 2, but there's still some fine black coat and his chest hasn't filled out. He's only 65 pounds. And he's often puppy goofy. We think he's 1 and change, but ...

His tail docking is awful (i.e., is 4" long) and is wagged with great enthusiasm.

Anyway, we're accommodating to each other and, best of all, Mats is making friends with the neighborhood kids (1st grade to high school) and dogs (tiny white fluffy thing to BRT and Pyr).

I just got a gentle nudge for an ear skritch and hug.
In a little while, he'll end up on the foot of our bed.

He's been here all of 10 days.

10 days with a new Sheepie? Do your cheeks hurt from smiling all the time yet? Congrats on taking a rescue!!! Please find some time to post some photos and tell us all about him and yourselves.

There are Sheepie gatherings of all sizes all over. There is definitely more fun in numbers! Look around here to see if there is one near you. I'm sure more would like to meet you and Mats.

Congrats on the adoption of Matts! They are cuddlebugs.
Welcome Mats and family!!!

Yes, photos...and where are you at? Maybe there are some of us in your area :D :D

Congrats on your new rescue boy! :hearts: :hearts:
I'm guessing that since Mats came from GGR, they're in SoCal. In which case there are several member down that way.

Great name! Thank you for taking a rescue. As for the stub, MO has one too and in full coat you never see it. Watching it wave about is great fun......no so much "rumba butt" as with properly docked, but still fun.
Congratulations on your new sheepie Mats! Love his name and would love to see pics!
Congratulations. That is wonderful news. And of course....pictures please!
Congratulations, sounds like you're having a great time with Mats.

Butchy has a stubby tail too, not sure if it wasn't docked right or possibly grew back a little but love watching it wag, his looks like a little pom pom. Wish it had been done right but he's such a great boy that we took what we got.
Congratulations! Can't wait to see the pictures...
Congratulations and welcome. Matts is one lucky fella and I know he repays you with love and smiles everyday :hearts: Will be anxious to hear more about him. :excited:
I like you already!! :wag:

Thanks so much for the introduction and welcome to the best forum on the net - Friendly people, amazing photos and really informative and helpful post. You've come to the right place.

I couldn't be happier for Mat and his new family. Thank you for fostering!!!!!!! :roses:

Welcome Mats! Can't wait to see some pictures of you!

Yay!!!!!
Lucky mats!
I'm glad to know that yet another sheepie and his humans are finding a permanent spot in each others hearts!

Our Bero also has a tail that's a little longer. Honestly, I don't give tuppence about it for in our case we wanted a family pet. He proved to be the perfect one at that.
Welcome Mats and family. So glad he found someone to love him. Sounds like a good match for both of you. We need pictures. Tell us about him and yourself.
