Lepto Vax

I'm against so much needless vaccinations. After reading this article: http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/leptospirosis-vaccine/ and the very telling line:
Quote:
The crux of the problem is, veterinary doctors do not typically know that the Leptospirosis vaccine does not confer immunity.
it makes me even more leary. Add to that the possible side effects of the vax.....rather long, read the article.

I just asked my vet about this vaccine last week. They don't even bother to carry it in their office and they do not recommend it for where we live. I am against unnecessary vaccination as well.
Great article! Interesting I had my dogs in for updates today since they will be kenneled for the next two weeks and the vet tried to encourage me to give them the Lepto vaccine and I refused. Now I'm even more convinced I did the right thing! Of course, then the vet made a "mistake" and gave Bella an unneeded Rabies vaccine instead of the Bordatella required by the kennel......I definitely expressed my displeasure as I'm totally against overvaccinating!

I would think Mesa would be the least likely lepto place around! 8O

I had asked our vet about prevalence here (as we are the land of 10000 lakes, after all). He said he's seen 2 cases in our area, and both were hunting dogs who had been to the same wildlife wetlands area duck hunting that year (separate occasions and dogs).

Years ago lepto was in the combo vaccine used here in MN, but not for a very long time...at least 10 years. And it's not recommended either.
My vet had his own dog die from the lepto virus here on Long Island. We do get the vaccine but he gives something first to counter any reaction. Never had a problem in the last five years of giving it to either dog...
