Panda gets a HongKong visitor!

Hi Everyone,

Had a wonderful day today that I'd like to share with you all. Panda's orginal owner has kept in touch with me via email and currently sent me photos of Panda as a puppy. As time has gone on I changed my mind as to how much she truly cared for him.

Yes, it's true he was horribly abused by the puppy mill/breeder while he lived in Hong Kong. Things like never being allowed out of his tiny cage especially the last six months he spent there.

I was always impressed when I recieved his medical forms as they were meticulous and it was obvious he was well cared for when he lived with his original owner the first year of his life. Due to her moving and the inability of her grandparents to look after him he was returned to the breeder.

This breeder/puppy mill whom had offered to take him back, I suspect was very dissapointed that he had been neutered and deemed him as a liability. She constantly gave him away to others whom mistreated Panda and I suspect beat him as he's terrified of anyone speaking in a loud voice and has other issues. I'm unsure how long this went on but when he arrived last year he was now three years old. Each time he was returned to the breeder after going through a series of homes where most would only keep him 3 wks due to all the issues that were emerging. It was also apparent that he never lived in a house as he was extemely destructive when he first arrived to my home.

Eventually, the original owner took him back and paid over 500 a month to place him in a kennel while trying to find a new home for him. She now lived in the city and was unable to keep him. She paid out this money for six months.Unfortunately, the kennel was not much better than the "breeder" as again he was kept in a tiny cage and only let out once a week for 20 mins. He slept, ate and had to go to the bathroom in the same cage.:O(

The original owner was not happy with the situation but felt she had no other alternatives and sent out notices to many rescue sites in Hong Kong. That is where this fellow that visited me today comes into the picture. He works for dog rescue in Hong Kong and arranged for Panda via his connections through Cathay Pacific to fly to my home in Vancouver. The original owner asked this fellow to please visit Panda when she found out he would be attending a conference in my city.

Roy and Elby from this site were heartbroken to see him in this condition and originally wrote about him on this site. They too were instrumental in helping with Panda's rescue. Those of you whom have been here a long time, know of his incredible rescue which involved so many. I am forever indebted to all of you for your support and encouragement.

It was nice to have this fellow visit me today to give me more background on Panda. He took quite a few pics of Panda snuggling on the couch..living the good life! Panda adored him and gave him lots of licks and rolled on his belly for pats. He took lots of photos of Panda on the couch and in the yard to show the original owner that he is finally happy and the story has a nice ending. Amazingly I've been doing tons of home reno's and have stacks of stuff in my kitchen which Panda doesn't touch...he's come such a long way! Ahhhh now if someday I can properly bathe and clip him I'll know we finally have reached the final goal.

Panda deserves to spend the rest of his life being happy after all the hardships of his past. I just love this boy and a year has gone by so quickly!

Poor Panda :( Lucky Panda to have found you!!! :D Sounds like an amazing story!
It's horrifying to hear of the conditions he was forced to endure... I'm so glad you have him now... and I bet he is too! :)
Thanks Marianne for your wonderfull caring for Panda. You're a great lady.
This story always makes me cry. And mad at people who don't care about animals and abuse them. But Marianne, there is a special place for you. Thank you so much for rescuing Panda and showing him love. He's come a long way and I know he's happy. His original owner much have had many rough moments before you came along. Give Panda a kiss from me. You deserve many hugs!

I'm always so happy to hear how well Panda is adjusting in your loving, nuturing home. What a lucky boy he is! And it's really great that now the original owner can have some peace and closure knowing that he's in a wonderful home with all the love and attention and treats he needs!! :D

You're an angel, Marianne! :D
Hi there, I always say God nevers pays his debts with money. whoever has been unkind to panda, something or someone will be unkind to them, lucky for panda god found you. luv pepe
You have a great big heart, Marianne, and Panda is receiving only a small portion of it's love! I'm sure Panda realizes just how lucky a puppy he really is, and you are equally lucky to have him. I wish you many, many happy years together.

Hey thanks everyone for the comments! I just wanted to set the record straight regarding Panda's original owner. I think that she has always continued to care about the circumstances he was in, but felt helpless as there wasn't many options in that country.

I do think she now has peace of mind that he's in a home where (although he looks rather unkept) :? he's a happy boy!

Hey, this is a great continuing story! Panda is very lucky to have found you!

It's good to know that the original owner is still thinking about panda and that she knows things got for the better.
I love happy endings :D
