Haunted places in your area

BlooBoo (Sam) mentioned something about ghosts a while back and this came to light today after talking to a co-worker about haunted places in Ohio. He's from Indiana and asked if there was anything around here that was haunted. Years ago, there was a book called Haunted Ohio. It listed dozens of places and building that were known to be haunted. Here was a quick search result that I passed along to my co-worker - http://www.forgottenoh.com/haunted.html

One of the things on this extensive list in Montgomery County is Sinclair Community College. This is close to me as I worked there for three year and spent a lot of time in several of the buildings that are alleged to be haunted. I worked in a building that was built for use as a slaughter house at one of the Dayton Stockyards. You can only imagine what might have gone on there to make the building haunted… When they slowed down, the local newspaper bought it and used it as one of the first printing buildings. This was then filled with all new big printing presses. Again, a very dangerous place where things could go ugly quick.

While I never saw any ghosts first hand, I did see things that appeared to be moved or rearranged all by them selves... Very creepy, especially when you're the only one on the floor and it's late and dark and you KNOW that you just shut and locked a door and as you walk out the door is open and unlocked!!! This happened nearly every night. I used to joke with some of my not-so-bright co-workers it was the ghost cows doing it so they had a way out. You’d be shocked how many bought that.

So, what do you have near you?

I live very close to Niagara-on-the-Lake, which is the most haunted town in Canada. For those who do not know this is the home of Fort George and the Battle of Queenston Heights (the war of 1812) With all of the bloodshed that happened during the war it is no wonder it is an extremely haunted town.

I have been on many of the Ghost Tours, including Fort George, Fort Niagara and the Ghost Walks throughout the town. Being a great lover of history, these tours have been a favourite of mine the last few years.
In my younger days, I use to go to a favorite nightspot which later was converted to a Wax Museam. The building had quite the history and it was said that several people perished in a fire early in the century. The building survived as it was brick and had undergone several ownerships and businesses throughout the years.
Many of the employees of the club reported hearing people screaming, "help me" and the rapping on walls when they were doing late night cleanups. Both my best friend and b/f worked there at the time and both insisted they heard the voices. Neither believed in ghost but they claim they did after their experiences. My friend was so disturbed by one incident she quit.
Interesting thread Vance.

Our town is home to Huntington Paranormal Research and Investigations. They have documented evidence of a number of haunted properties in our area and beyond. I have heard most of these stories during my youth, but did not really "believe". I guess there is more to it.

Last fall, I overheard a conversation with Dr. Grimes, a local dentist. His office is number one (of ten local) on the HPRI list. He convinced me that his office is truly haunted. He ended the conversation with "they are definitely there..harmless..and I'm used to them now" 8O 8O Here is a link from a Halloween media event last year.

I'm not saying I'm a believer, but I have stopped making snide remarks :twitch:

HPRI is a legit company and the evidence on the website is interesting, complete with audio.

This might make an interesting autumn playdate???
There are at least 2 Haunted Chicago books that Melissa and I have, or have read. I have not purposely visited any of the sites listed 8O I usually have my eyes closed for 1/2 of any scary movie

One that is fairly close to us is Munger Road in Bartlett...they made the story into a movie that came out last fall. I believe it has something to do with the train tracks that go through the area :cow:
In the little town of Franklin just about 15 minutes south of us--there is a ghost walk every year to visit all the haunted places in the town. One of the largest battles of the Civil War was fought just outside of downtown Franklin. There are lots of stories- new and old of the experiences that people have had in the homes and buildings in Franklin and the surrounding area.

We were going to take the ghost walk last year --but arrived a little late and it was full--so next year we will take it and see whats up. There is one huge old home that is believed to house many spirits that could not find their way home after the battle.

I think it is all very interesting...
i lived it....sucked royally...we moved...
Darcy, you put up a post like that without stories...

Downtown St. Charles has a Ghost Tour http://www.stcharlesghosts.com/ and it looks like they run year round.
And St. Louis has one of the most haunted places in the country http://www.lempmansion.com/.
Maybe a few of us could squeeze a tour in during sheepiepalooza.

it got progessively worse once we started remodeling....had TAPZ come out...they got mean and i dont really like to talk about it any more...

click on investigations, residential, case # r-115

i would rather not comment or talk about what you see and hear...let's just say it is better to stay away from things that you cannot control and leave it to people who can.
I grew up in San Antonio, we had "the tracks". It is a rail road crossing where a school bus broke down on the tracks, a train came and the small kids could not get out. They were killed. Now if you go- day or night- you turn your car off and they will push you over the tracks. It is a incline so its not like your just rolling down hill. Its kinda creepy.

Also in our old home in SA we would see things. I often saw a man walking around in the house, my husband didnt believe me till he saw him walking into our bedroom one day. It was an older man in a blue flannel shirt. We found out a few years later a man was killed in the house by a drive by shooting, our realitor forgot to tell us about that. 8O . But he never bothered us, we would just see him once in awhile walking by. Sometimes you would feel the bed bump or a chair move. But he was friendly. We did move, but because of job reasons. We learned a couple of years after we moved that the lady who bought our house died of a heartattack. :(
Creepy story about your old home kristin! :(

The Black Country (Dudley) is supposed to have many haunted places. They have ghost tours etc.. (Never been myself) Dudley castle at the zoo is supposed to haunted by the soldiers.

Besides warick castle, london dungeons and whitick manor house. The only place near me that i DEFINATELY know is haunted is my nans house. You can hear the sliding doors open and bang shut, and footsteps. I saw the man before, he got a long beard (Only saw the silohette very strange flash) apparently i was correct (Though noone else has ever seen him) the man hung himself in nans home!!!)
My aunties old farmhouse was also haunted. I went upstairs to get some sleep the one year, and as i lay down i heard a loud grunt by the side of me, so i lept up and darted downstairs screaming (YES I WAS PETRIFIED!!) Later that day my auntie said its haunted, she was in the bedroom and the door slammed behind her! :/ IVE NEVER BEEN BACK SINCE!!!

Its silly, but i get completely freaked about ghosts. What makes it worse is i can see and feel them, so if i go somewhere new and i can sense a ghost i cant stay i am SCARED TO DEATH!!!!! :plead: I get nightmares for months! :headbang:
