Horrific(Dr. Appointant)

I had to renew a prescription and I had a call that since I hadn't been to the Dr. for awhile that I needed to make an appt. for a physical(to get my script)

So I went and I'm relatively healthy. I actually wanted to go(eventually) to talk about the possibility of gout and to have my thyroid tested to see if its working right because I'm mostly exhausted, have no energy and have put on (gasp) 20lbs.

I got the order for uric acid level, a TSH(throid), cholesteral level and a mammogram since I haven't had one for three years. I asked the Dr. where the lab was and she directed me.

Here's where it gets horrific. I find the lab, look around the small box of a room and there's no receptionist. I have to ask another patient how do I let them know I'm here. She lets me know I have to sign in...How? There's a pad of paper and you put your name on it. Fine, now what do I do with the paper? There are small directions, nothing I would really read, there. So I stand around waiting and someone calls my name. I look around and there's no one in sight. I look into the room where they do blood draws and ask if someone called my name. One of them says yes. I am flabbergasted...she didn't even bother to walk to the door to call my name, just stands back in the room, where I can't see her, and calls out my name.

Bad experience, I'm PO'd, just ready to get the heck out. Still don't have an appt. for a mammogram, don't know where to make it, don't care.

I walk down the hall, stop to put the stuff in my hands down to zip up my jacket. There's a phone on the counter where I stopped. On another small sign it says to pick up the phone if you need to make an appt for blah, blah, mammogram. Its a small sign, nothing I would really read if I didn't stop to zip my jacket.

Is it really alot to expect some customer service? I know there are alot of older folks that go there and how many don't get the tests they need and get confused because there are only small signs and no one to really tell you where to go to get what you need. I'm not THAT old and I was confused and ready to walk out without getting what I needed.

You've got enough years on you now to have "grown a set"......complain loud and frequently. Complain to your doctor, write the head of the lab......heck even to the top of the food chain....head of corporation.

My place sends out "how'd we do" forms after mammos and other procedures....most times, no complaints, this last time I blasted them. I heard back from head of department who apologized.

It is rude not to come to the door, what if you had a hearing impairment? Fussy child nearby....rude, rude, rude.

Mine has that darn sign in sheet, no sign.....but fortunately there's someone sitting there who can point.
Yikes! That sounds like a horrible experience and I'm sorry you had to go through that. There is no excuse for that poor interaction and a kind word or reassurance cost nothing. Someone isn't doing their job.
Hugs to you
Marianne
That sounds like a really frustrating experience. I would make a lot of noise about that - It's your health we are talking about!! :ghug:

 Find another doctor......
and tell the first place why you do the change.
Your healt is your life. Not much fun to get old
with that kind of healthcare.
I thought things were a lot better "over there". :cow:
They sure don't take into consideration how difficult their attitude makes it for patients and like you said the elderly, we get confused enough.
Absolutely unacceptable. I would complain and switch to another practice if there's a comparable doctor somewhere else.
I hope this wasn't the same health care clinic/system that you work at!!

Luckily we have lots of signage, and humans to help direct people at all the clinics I visit with my clients.
Yea Dawn! You caught it. This is within the same system I work in. There have been DRASTIC budget cuts and I guess its one of the cuts....more signs and less people.

I do plan on complaining and bringing up the elderly people. If I'm getting confused I bet they are "losing" money when people walk out because they can't find what they want.
