Has anyone toilet trained there cat

I know many of you have cats along with your wonderful sheepies, so I was wondering if anyone has tried this.
We bought something called City Kitty. It's helps you train your cat to use the toilet.
We have a bathroom downstairs that we never use, and I thought it would be kind of neat to try getting Buzzy to use it. 8O

So far he has no desire to potty on the toilet.
If anyone has done this I would love some ideas.

Thanks

i would think the 1st thing to do is get him a subscription to Playcat magazine. 8)

to keep from falling in? :sidestep:
Hi

Having fostered over 160ish cats and being mom to several all my life, I have only had 2 out of that number that did go on the toilet. I didn't train them - they just did it themselves. Too bad they can't also be trained to flush the toilet afterwards but there's a neat b/w cat on YouTube who not only goes but flushes afterwards as well.

I'm not familiar with the item you purchased but if I think it's what I visualize...paperish stuff placed across the toilet with litter to entice them? Then I would also place their previous soiled litter on top of it...close the bathroom door and they may get the idea. Cats will often go where they smell their urine (kinda like dogs in some ways) so that may help.

I have fostered several cats that had bathroom issues with litter boxes and placing them in a small room (like a bathroom) for a few days with a litter box did the trick with all of them. I know that's not quite what you are asking but figured I'd write about that too in case someone owns a kitty who needs to learn to use a litter box. Whew...toilet may be difficult but not impossible. (Just a note on what I've written - people just need to have vet rule out medical issues first if kitty is experiencing bathroom issues as many times it's related to illness of some sort.)

Back to the matter at hand...I'd check out YouTube vids as there are several and ask the people whom have managed to train their cats.

If you can't manage it...I'd also recommend using wood stove pellets. All the SPCA's in my area and the majority of animal shelters are now using this stuff instead of clay litter. It's more biologically friendly, waaaaay less expensive...a big bag can be bought for a few dollars at Home Hardware stores or Feed Stores as i believe it's also placed in horse stalls. On occasion it can be flushed but not recommended as it'll eventually plug up your toilet but scooping and flushing is okay but not the entire thing. Wood pellets absorbs the urine and turns kinda flaky but I haven't found it problamatic as I change litter boxes daily (just cause I have 10 cats). ^O^

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

My husband told me his great aunt taught her cat how to use the toilet. I have no idea how she trained the cat, but it worked.
I have heard of that system and thought -wow that would be great! Haven't tried it though. Very interested in hearing if it works for you-
sometimes i just can't help myself, so this may actually help. 8)

we have 2 cats, we just have 2 litter trays in different places in the house. Never tried toilet training them :/ They are let outside to toilet anyway (normlly in next doord garden! :P oops)

Cats can learn things, but i dont think mine would understand

Whats wrong with a litter tray?? sam xx
Let us know how its going anyways :) :high5:
I have a friend who did toilet train one of her cats.

I don't know the name of the system, but it fits over the toilet and is like a litter box, then over several gradual steps the cat ends up with just the toilet.

Now mind you, she is retired/disability marines, and is younger than me, and has lots and lots of spare time!!

Buzzy used the toilet today.... :clappurple: :clappurple:

Yay for Buzzy.

Lets see if he can keep doing it.

:cheer: :cheer: Yay Buzzy! You learn FAST!
Are you freakin kidding me? The last thing I need is Greebo taking hours in the bathroom, washing, preening, plucking, admiring himself in the mirror...
:excited: That last post was was funny!

Yeah Buzzy you are a smart cat! Tell mom you deserve a special treat to a wee bit of catnip..
