anesthesia- hip x-ray

Is it needed? Has anyone had successful x-rays without using anesthesia on your OES?

Yes, I have. But a lot depends on the vet doing the x-rays & the equipment they are using. You want to get the best positioning possible for the best x-rays. When anesthesia was necessary, the vet used the the absolute minimum.
Many dog people (self included) in MN travel to a particular clinic especially for doing anesthesia-less OFA hip and elbow xrays. I imagine this is the case elsewhere.
Do some research, talk to other dog people and see where they go.
All my dogs have been done with no anesthesia or even sedation..... there's just no need for it if the dog is calm and well behaved.
First time around was with anesthesia. Since then always without. A good tech who takes his/her time will get it done. If the dog is in pain though, some relief is suggested.
