Ear infection after plucking hair

Why does Frankie get what seems to be an ear infection after I pluck his ears. I plucked on Sunday, and now it has really nasty brown gunk in his ear.
Am I too rough when I pluck?
Poor boy I feel bad for him.

That happens to Yuki and I remember a lot of other dogs when it's not done more frequently (too much at one time)? If done more regularly, we don't have a problem.
Hmmmm. I'd think it would be just the other way around. Maybe the reason he has the nasty brown gunk is because the hair isn't hiding it anymore. Could be ear mites or a yeast infection, both of which only get worse the more hair that is left in the ear canals. Are you cleaning the ear canal & flap & drying it after plucking?
I put cleaner in them when I'm done, and dry with cotton squares. Even when he has a procedure done that he needs to be knocked out and I have the vet do it, he gets the same thing.
They don't smell and he isn't shaking his head, it just looks very very sore and gunky.
We have a vet appt on Sunday so I'll have him take a look.

Belle is my gunky ear dog. My vet had looked at it and said not an infection or yeast, just gunky/greasy ears. I'd sort of written it off as age related. Gross, but not life threatening.

I had her at herding a couple of years ago when another OES breeder noticed some discoloration on the hair around her ears, asked me about it, I told her about her perpetually dirty ears and the next week she brought me a bottle of K-9 liquid health ear cleaner and a small syringe (for application - no needle), and said try this once a week.

It's purple. It stains. It's kind of vile smelling if you ask me. But it works. And it's not very expensive either. You can probably order it from somewhere like pet edge if you can't find it at a regular pet supply store locally. It may be worth a try. I popped some in belle's ears twice a week the first couple of weeks and then down to once a week and now more like every other week. Just figured I'm mention it in case.
