New love

I met a breeder here in AZ. Today. Her bitch is pregnant. She owns the momma and daddy. The sire is smaller in stature but is solid and beautiful in full coat. The momma is a little larger, more squarely built, also in full coat (till next week).

There were three found on the ultra sound, so realistically, my odds aren't good.

The dogs, she had four. Three females. 12, 8 and 3. And a male, 5... They were well mannered and sweet...I left with dog hair all over me and a stiff face from all of the kisses.

Fingers crossed. If it is meant to be, then so be it.

As I was driving home, I thought, as beautiful as they were, panda was so much more. This is such an emotional process. But it is one that needs to happen. God willing. This will be my second puppy, and she will be loved as much as panda.

No dog feels as good as a sheepie. Hugging those girls made me miss my pooh but also calmed my heart.

Oh Darcy-- :crossed: :crossed: fingers and paws crossed for you. So hoping it will all work out for you and you will have your puppy! :hearts:
Glad you were able to get lots of hugs and sheepie kisses!
Looks like Panda is talking to you!!! Pay attention to what he has to say. Good luck and get some photos!!!

Vance
Darcy, no pup will fill Panda's shoes,,,and it will be okay to love a new pup. Loving another pup doesn't take away from your love for Panda. There will never be another Panda...and you will love Panda forever...but you will also love the new pup...don't feel guilty about loving another pup...I know I felt that way when my baby Rags passed and I waited and then finally found my new babies...

Keeping paws crossed things work out for you :crossed:
Hopefully there will a puppy for you in this litter. They should be nice puppies. I know the breeder & I know where her dogs go back to.
Panda will alway have a special place in your heart. But I think she's telling you to make room for another one, from this breeder. Each dog is it's own "person". Remember that & don't compare except for: Panda was so good at "this" but the puppy is good at "that".
Give it a chance & I think you will be pleasantly surprised!
I hope that things work out for you, Darcy! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
I was so impressed by her (the breeder). It was soooo different from Panda's .. Her house was immaculate, her dogs well kept and obviously loved. She was kind and answered all questions. She let me sit on the floor and get loved on by all her dogs.

I hope she thought that me and Brian will make good puppy parents.

I loved how she prefaced that she thought it was important to stay in contact with all of her puppy parents. :hearts:
I know this must feel bittersweet to you, but Panda would not want you to be sad any longer. And once you would see and hold that new puppy, you would be lost in her. Just as Panda would have wanted for her momma.

Good luck!
I hope there is a puppy from this litter for you. :crossed: Good luck!

And here you think she's being nice and she's just testing you.

Will Darcy cringe when the sheepdogs trample her?
Will she spend the next 30 minutes picking hair off her clothing?
Disinfect every surface that has been assaulted by sheepdog smooches??

Ah, breeders. We're all evil...;-)

Fingers crossed for you, hon. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:

Good luck Darcy. Fingers and paws crossed that your new baby is in this litter.
omg Darcy....that is so awesome! Panda would absolutely want you to share your incredible love again! And, no, this pup would not be Panda but a wonderful new experience that will help you laugh again! Fingers and paws crossed for you.
So, are you worried about them not thinking you are a good puppy home? Or are there more people ahead of you promised puppies, than there are puppies? (you said the US only showed 3?)

Fingers crossed here for you Darcy!! :crossed: :crossed:

I think this is important too. I speak to Wanda almost weekly even when there aren't any issues. And when there's something to brag about, she's usually the first person to hear about it.

Looks like you found a winner!

There is no one in the world who will be as excited with you or who will be as happy with you, as your breeder. When I have a brag or concern or a silly story, I find myself contacting my breeder~

I remember Heart's love affair with paper when she was a puppy~~ When I contacted my breeder she told me that her mom,,aunt and granddad were the same way..it was genetic    :D

I have no doubt that Panda is 'helping' you find your 'new love'.

I am so happy for both of you....PLEASE keep us posted!!!!

:ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Hope it works out! :crossed:

I was COVERED with hair...didnt bother me in the least...brian changed clothes when we got home, not me...just wiped it off...

i just added another layer of blush...sheepie drool is a good base coat....skin was nice and tight..

im afraid that we may not be high up on the list...she said she had a waiting list and i didnt want to be rude to ask here where we were on said list....

we are also still open for a rescue 18 months or younger too....God and Panda will lead us to the right one...it just felt so RIGHT to be spitting and pulling dog hair out of my mouth and lipstick..lol

Remember that some of those people on the list may already have found puppies & not bothered to contact the breeder. Happens to us all the time. In some cases, life situations have changed & some people cannot take a dog at that time. And some of the people may definitely want 1 sex or the other & that may leave them out of the running. And then there are always those that want specific markings  What I am trying to say is I never tell people how many are on the the waiting list because that number can change daily! 1 reason we don't take deposits until puppies are on the ground & we know we have what the people are looking for.

Darcy, add to all of what Marilyn has said that though there could be ten people ahead of you, yet, all else being equal, if a breeder really loves you as a potential home for one of his or her puppies, lists can easily go out the window.

If it's meant to happen, it'll happen.

I never though of sheepie slobber etc as a good foundation for make up, I wear it INSTEAD of make up. Now I see I've been doing it wrong all these years, figures

so happy when i saw this post!! i will keep my paws crossed for u maybe send her a leeter tell her how nice it was meeting her dogs etc :lmt:
when i rescued dolly i was on a waiting list and i called and when to see are daily just sort of push them to my direction just saying
Really hope this all works out. Sounds like it was a fun time for you and the dogs.
Great News Darcy! My fingers are crossed for you guys.
Oh, so hope you find your next princess soon :hearts: :hearts: She will be so loved :aww:
Great news Darcy!!! Keeping my fingers and our paws crossed. When are the puppies due?
And dog hair, I believe its in this year!!
Darcy -- this is wonderful, exciting news. Whatever happens with this litter, I think you (with Panda's help) are on a great path. It doesn't do her or you any good to be without the love of a sheepdog. Good luck! I'll be hoping for good news. :hearts: :hearts: :hearts: :hearts:
I want to know when they are due as well. Having never had kids, I totally felt preggers when I was waiting for Ru, I kept rubbing my belly and was so freakin stressed in case it didn't work out, I even referred to it as 'my due date'
I remember trying so hard to sell myself to Amber. I made a point of having David and I email her from our government email accounts, as if that would somehow indicate that we are responsible people who are gainfully employed and can afford to feed the dog and care for it. I was more nervous than in job interviews!

So true!!

When we went to meet the dalmo breeder where Rastus is from she asked if we wanted to meet all her dogs. Yup! :D She has big kennels in the country. Of course I said. Then she asked if I wanted to wait on the inside or the outside of the gate to the paddock (field??) that the dog runs were in. The inside, of course!!! :excited:

She let around one dozen (to hard to count a mass of excited spots) out of the big communal run. They took off across the grass and then noticed Wayne and I standing near the gate. The whole bunch turned and charged us like a spotted avalanche. :cheer: The breeder had kept two from a previous litter (different bitch) to show. They were about 6 months old and the little girl was soooo pretty. Dalmos are rather excitable beasts so when I squatted down to pat a different dog the girl jumped on my back. I was wearing a white Tshirt and had muddy paw prints walking up my back.

When I turned around and told the breeder that I'd take the Missy who was walking on me she laughed and said "ok you pass the test". She told me that on a few occasions her dogs had refused to come to people who she let in the paddock or the prospective buyers had refused to go in with the dogs. They didn't get one of her dogs.
Good Luck Darcy and we are all keeping fingers and paws here crossed there is a special sheepie baby being baked in the oven at the moment and destined for your family. Panda will be watching and guiding you too.

As Marilyn and Kristine said just because there is a waiting list does not mean you end up down the bottom of it as a good home will jump leaps and bounds over others waiting and also cancellations, sex not available lots of reasons it changes once puppies are on the ground.

I make a biased judgement on my lists, previous OES owners get precedence, a bit discrimitry I know but my choice at the time to make sure they do go to that perfect forever home.

Now 3 on the Ultra Sound, does not confirm only 3 lil buns baking in the oven. :D Most breeders dont take what's seen as gospel as some more are usually higher up the the horn of the uterus and cant been seen on the US. So there might be a surprise there for you  Ultra sounds are more used to confirm the bitch is in whelp. For instance bries US showed 5 and 9 born. We are all keeping everything crossed for you and brian and though a new fur baby will never replace that special girl in panda and never will, like all of us that have lost an OES a new one to love will be it's own little fur self to grow, bloom, take on there own special place in your hearts in there own individual way.

I am sure panda is looking down on you both, smiling, hoping her mom and dad are blessed real soon . :ghug:
Darcy, of course the breeder will choose you, that's a no brainer. :P
Darcy, I'm so excited for you!!! :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:
brian is really FREAKING out!! yesterday morning, one of our neighbors (who supposedly moved out) left their dog in their apartment..and he was BARKING non stop for 4 hours..loudly...everyone left notes on the door and finally, note and dog were gone...you could hear this dog from inside the apartment with the tv on...

his fears are barking, potty training and chewing...

ive been thinking at night before sleeping...keeping her on a leash (umbilicord training) for potty and chewing training, crate training for night and when we leave and coming and going for her to get used to us leaving....

i have no illusions that this will be easy in a hi rise..but i told brian, the good news, unlike panda, that this is ALL she will know...so, hopefully, she will be a little more desensitized by the noises......

any other idea?
Most likely your breeder will expose her to lots of different noises before you even get her.
We never had any issues with chewing from Mady or Gracie. Potty training goes really quickly if you're really attentive the first couple of weeks, being able to take the first week or two off really really helps. Sure you're in a high-rise, that just means a lot of elevator trips holding this adorable puppy, she'll be introduced to a lot of people in the building that way, good for her socialization and for neighbours warming up to your puppy. Crate training is a must. Keep her well exercised and she'll want to sleep when home alone, not sit around and bark all the time.

I'm sure you'll both do great!
The only time Bond ever barks in his crate is in the early AM hours - and it's because he needs to go out and go potty.
Todd works 2am to 11am - so he comes home and sleeps...so I was REALLY worried about a barking, crated puppy during the day...but Todd says he never barks.

And we make a real effort to exercise, entertain and keep his mind and body busy when he's not crated...it pays off. :cheer:

Sometimes our fears are worse than reality!! :phew: :phew:
Dawn - his sisters have slept peacefully through the night ever since I moved their crates into the bedroom. In fact, they're so happy to be included at night that they run upstairs and throw themselves into their crates

I know that's not workable for you, and that he will some day learn to shut up and let you sleep, but I think he's more lonely than bladder challenged at this point. His sisters were getting me up at 3:30-4:30 am. The minute they could observe me snoring directly -nada. Mind you, I'm usually up between 5-6 am anyway.

On the flip side Todd's nap time probably coincides with HIS nap time. No one ever said life was fair

And I might be unfairly blaming Bond...as I have 2 senior bassets who can't always make all night as well. :?
..and when one needs to go out, they wake EVERYONE up!
Thank goodness I can let them out, back in, on virtual autopilot...then go right back to sleep until "real" morning...or my alarm..whichever comes 1st! 8)
Ah, I can't easily go back to sleep, esp when I know the alarms going to go off any minute anyway, so I finally brought them up in self-defense.

And, yes, I have the geriatric dog wanting to get up at ungodly hours too, though even she's been sleeping better lately, so not sure who was egging whom on, but definitely pack is better when we're all together at least.

Yes, we want a little girl....so, we just have to wait and see what the momma dog has, and how many...
what would you guys say the percentages of a bitch having males vs females? anyone?
Darcy wrote:

50/50?
Litter size is entirely dependent on the female.
Firstly, how many eggs she has released...
And secondly how many of those eggs once fertilised, she can accommodate. If she has too many embryos for her body size then some will be reabsorbed... and that is not sex-selective, just according to what she can comfortably incubate to full birth development... it's random.

The male doesn't really influence the sex of babies to any degree - it is pot luck which, on average, pans out to be 50/50.

He contributes XY, and female contributes XX.
The male makes equal amounts of X and Y sperm. Once released, and they go to find the female's eggs, it's down to chance which of his Y sperm find an X making a male, and which of his X sperm find an X making a female.

Nah.
I'm thinking it's more.......51/49.
I think with humans it's 97 girls to every 100 boys. However by the time they reach adulthood girls surpass boys, due to accidents occuring to more males than females.

That's with people...dunno about canines. Although 90% of the dogs in shelters are males. Could be they roam more if they are intact and thus picked up more often?

Anyhow crossing my fingers you get your girl . I too want one but plan on waiting for aprox 5-10 more years.

And more baby boys die in infancy than girls. I am very curious now, I wonder if this is true with other species. Hmm, maybe if I do get laid off from my health stats job, I will start up a dog stats agency!

Depends on a whole host of things, Darcy.

If we all bred them young and habitually used local resident convenient 'stud muffin' like BYBs tend to do, we'd probably see bigger litters more regularly.

However, if you wait to finish a bitch and do health testing and then find a good match, who may need to be collected and shipped via fedex if you catch my drift, because he lives halfway across the country, or the world, or maybe you're using frozen semen from a dog long gone or....so many different variables...you don't expect big litters.

I bred Mad for the first and only time at 3 1/2 and got 8 puppies. I bred her daughter afor the first and almost certainly only time at 5 1/2 and got 3. The longer you wait, the more the uterus "deteriorates". If you do get puppies out of an older bitch bred for the first time and you intend to breed her one more time the smart thing to do is actually to breed her again on her next season - you'll typically get a bigger litter second time around because the hormonal pump has been primed. Then you typically spay her.

Fingers crossed for you, hon. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:

Kristine
Thanks Kristine!!! Zoe is three and the breeder owns the sire too. It was a matched "love" match. It was an intended breed but done the old fashion way. Unlike pandas breeder, I feel SO good about this breeder...I just "assumed" small dogs, small litter and the bigger the dog the bigger the litter.

I am just so happy that IF there is a female, looks like I'll be a momma again.....

I look at the momma and daddy dog pics and I'm so excited. Oh, and scared shi7less too!
I know your heart of hearts wants a girl, but what if it's 2 bundles of boy? Maybe Panda wants to mix it up :lmt: She did match you with the right breeder.

Brian is more scared of a puppy than me. He really wants a female, so in order to get a puppy "now", I will let him pick the sex.
Darcy wrote:

Don't be scared! I :hearts: Puppies! They are the sweetest little innocent beings! Just don't get two at a time. That is hard (I know from watching Ali's sweet babies).

My favorite local trainer recommends this book, which is a little over the top but good to remind you of the structure they need. . .
I am soooo hoping...

I wanted to add that I used to think I only wanted female dogs but, after Henry, I can't even remember why I thought that. I absolutely love having a boy. They are different but wonderful. I think with two, I would always want a mixed gender pair. But if I could only have one, I think I might actually prefer a boy. 8O

The boy dogs certainly do love their mommies.
I've had a female collie when I was young, she was a wonderful dog but since I've always been drawn to the males.

They are suppose to love their mommies best but Carl has Butchy's heart, I'm favored for some things but daddy is his buddy.

Too true!
oh I SO love my cambridge. my cooper is a boy too. I used to be a "girl" dog fan...but I wouldn't trade
my boys for a million dollars (although my hubby probably would!)

just think- easier and cheaper to fix :-)))

anyway- puppy love is puppy love- so congrats either way!
still no puppies.....she was due on tues.....
oh no :(

Anymore details?...I would fear the US might have shown reabsorbing bodies....just from my medical background. I think xrays would have been more appropriate. Hopefully they are following thru and doing xrays and a section or something.... :?
3 days over due is nothing to panic about.... keep us posted!
she had an xray last week...thats how i know there are only 2 puppies....just waiting now...breeder said anyyyy time now.....

Uhhh...taking too long

We need pics of a super cute Darcy pup!! :cheer:
FWIW, I didn't know Banker was born until he was 3 days old. Patti's priority, as it should be, was making sure everyone was okay. Then she let us know. So I' still holding out for a St Paddy's pup.
I know. I'm sure she will let me know. I just dying over here. I keep checking my email. My gut is telling me that they were born yesterday. St paddys day. Panda usually makes it impossible for me to not miss a sign. That would work...

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Yup, call them and tell them they are causing all kinds of stress and anxiety around the world!!
From a breeder's point of view, she may be waiting to call until she has them vet checked & tails docked. That is what we do so we don't get somebody's hopes up only to have to tell them differently.
I keep checking back like everyone else....... fingers and paws crossed for some news soon!
