Aircraft watcher

I have to ask anyone if their sheepies look up when airplanes are going overhead. We go for lots of walks and live near an airport. Each time an airplane flies near, Blue Star will look up and follow it across the sky!! 8O
It's really amazing. I've never had a dog do that. Also, if she hears thunder she perks up and searches for where it came from.

How interesting!! Max always looks up when he sees airplanes also!! We live close to a small city airport, and ever since we've had Max he can't stop watching airplanes!! I've always thought he remembered his flight to come and live with us and now if I say where's the airplane, he looks up to the sky! Every year we have an airshow and we're right in the flight pattern, so when the Blue Angels whiz through here it is so loud and feels like an earthquake!! This summer will be Max's first airshow, I wonder if they make sheepie earplugs?
We live on the approach to a municipal airport that shares space with the Air Force. Yep, my sheepdogs follow the aircraft, the Pyrs can't be bothered.

I must admit, I can set my watch (well nearly) to the UPS and FedEx arrivals.

(thankfully commercial airliners have quieter engines now--airforce mostly uses another runway for their fighers, phew)
PANDA TENDS TO IGNORE PLANES, HOWEVER, WE HAD A LIGHTED BLIMP GO AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD FOR A FEW HOURS ONE NIGHT AND EVERY TIME THAT BLIMP CAME INTO SITE SHE WOULD JUMP AT IT BARK GROWL ETC IT WAS QUITE FUNNY, BUT PLANES NAW ....
Then don't bring Panda to Albuquerque, especially during the Balloon Fiesta. We live 25 miles south of the field so receive few balloons, but when we do......I have panic on my hands. The appearance and especially the sound of the propane burner causes chaos. Pyrs try to defend the house ffrom aerial attack, sheepdogs panic and bark. Pity the dogs living closer to the park.
SHEEPIE BOSS, PANDA WOULD GO CRAZY!!!!!LAST NIGHT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE SITTING ON THE PATIO, AND SHE WAS GOING WILD :? WE COULDNT FIGURE IT OUT, UNTIL I GOT UP AND LOOKED OVER THE FENCE, JUST OVER THE BLOCK FENCE, THERE WAS A HOME DEPOT PLASTIC BAG THAT GOT STUCK IN THE NEIGHBORS TREE(IT LOOKED LIKE A BALLOON) AND IT GOT HER GOING....SHE WOULD RUN UP TO THE FENCE, BARK, RUN FEARFULLY AWAY, RUN BACK TO THE FENCE, BARK AND RUN AWAY AGAIN ...IT WENT ON FOR AN HOUR FINALLY I MADE BRIAN HOP THE FENCE TO TAKE IT DOWN....I COULDNT TAKE IT ANY LONGER :)
This is all so interesting. Blue Star also looks up at flying birds and runs to chase them. We don't have blimps or balloons, but if we did I'm sure she would react.

 Silly doggies!! Max also likes birds and he'll try to take off after one when I take him on walks. He also loves chasing leaves that blow in the wind. We've had a rainy windy week, with lots of leaves for him to chase! Then he chews them up and spits them out! I can't wait for Fall when the leaves fall, he'll be fighting with my kids to see who gets to jump in the leaf pile first!!
Dancer likes birds... Sky doesn't seem to care.... we have small planes, and choppers, go over frequently, but rarely anything big.... I've never noticed if they react to them or not....
Blue Star, MO invites you to come join her in shadow chasing. Bird shadows are the best as they move so quickly. She long ago gave up on the birds themselves, except hummingbirds which hold still and make a better target (tho she has yet to catch one, thankfully).

Spike definitely watches when planes go over head. It's adorable to watch. I wonder what he's thinking when he sees them.
Bogart's favorite ride is to the local airport, he loves
watching the planes taking off and landing.

The only time he was startled was when a helicopter came directly
over us while we were walking in the yard, it must have
looked like a giant dragonfly to him. We were back to the house
in a flash!
Sheepieboss-I had to laugh when you said that Mo liked the shadows of birds for an easier target. Blue Star still runs like mad to catch those birdies. But of course they are much faster and go a little higher!

Blue also loves to chase leaves in the wind. Ever since she was a pup she chased blowing leaves.

I think Blue would be like Bogart and run all the way home if any aircraft came closer than she would expect. Loud noised are not her favorite. I'm wondering what the fourth is going to be like for her. 8O

Very strange... I was outside with Pepsi the other day and caught him looking up towards the sky. He was watching an airplane fly over. He watched it for a couple of minutes. He also watched the fireworks.

Henry likes the hummingbirds but they are WAAAYY too fast for him. He also like butterflies (monarchs migrate along the CA coast.) But I don't let him chase the butterflies because it is just too cute to see a sheepie following a butterfly. I thought about asking Danita to do a picture of Henry following a monarch butterfly but other than the fact that I am currently unemployed and poor (but happy!) it is too much like a sappy greeting card.
