Martin Zephram: The Fluffiest?

Since this forum includes fluffiness I thought I'd send a few photos of Martin Zephram after a recent bath. He has managed to grow this BIG coat by the age of 3 years but definitely needs a bit of trimming and a lot of shaping before we can think about showing him.

So after 1 1/2 hours in the tub and 3 plus hours on the table do you think the big boy is upset with his daddy? Well here's his thoughts on the situation.

I just couldn't help but brag a bit about a very special son, one of the 4-footed ones!!

(Sorry to those who tried to view these before I could figure out the new picture posting protocol.)

Thanks and Cheers

WOW! Holy moley!

No THAT's a coat!

Wow Carl, Martin looks GREAT!

Now I have an incentive to hurry and get that line grooming tutorial published!
Carl,

What a beautiful dog?

Do you think maybe he was so happy because his ordeal was over? How come you didn't wash his beard? :D

Seriously, could you expand for us neophytes the logic behind "trimming and shaping"? I thought you just leave everything grow out naturally except for the paws and butt for cleanliness. What areas are trimmed and shaped, and to what extent is permissible for showing?
I get one of those "paws on the shoulders" wet hugs every morning from my guy. Usually after I have changed into my work clothes.

Great pix.
Holy tortilla with guacamole!!!!!!! 8O 8O 8O

Our most extensive congratulations to Carl for keeping a great coat in top shape... You should be very proud.

Congratulations!!! You are my herOES of the day.
George,

Believe it or not Martin's beard was washed, including peroxide and whitening shampoo. 8O As I have mentioned in other posts Martin is a very "wet mouthed" Bobtail. He is by far the wetest mouthed OES I have ever known, it's bred into him. (Here is one of the earliest photos we have of him from his breeder. He has been a water boy since day one!! ) In spite of extensive efforts to keep his beard in decent shape this boy plays in his water bowl so much and dribbles to such an extent that the saliva enzymes have really discoloured his beard.
I am going to have to start an even more concerted effort to get his beard cleaned up and will try the MOM/Peroxide paste before his next bath and then full strength whitening shampoo with an extended "soaking" period in the bath.

I'll address your question on trimming and shaping for the ring in the grooming forum as I think it is more appropriate to discuss there.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
Martin is absolutely stunning. The pictures truly took my breath away. You should be proud of yourself for having such a handsome boy and for being so patient with the grooming. And of course, baby Martin in the water is just precious.

He is absolutely gorgeous! Looks like he loves his Daddy very much. :) Jasper is a water dog too!
He is gorgeous, stunning is the word for it, and you have done such an amazing job with his coat.....
Thank you for sharing these pics... I've been wanting to get a better look at Martin for a long time! It was worth the wait..... I can't wait to see how he does in the ring..... he has a beautiful shawl and neckline.... once his feet, beard and bum are trimmed he should be a real winner in the ring!!!
Why do you have to trim his feet? I think they look awesome like that. I understand the bum and beard... Will that make him more compliant with the breed standard?
The feet are to be trimmed just around the edges for neatness and evenness....
Wow, what a great handsome fluffy dog...what do you do in your spare time  !
He is absolutely gorgeous!! Oh my goodness!! Dare I dream?? Thanks for sharing the pictures!

The one from his early days at the breeder - I have that same barrel/pump set up and my boy is constantly in it, too.  Very funny! Of course, I have the same issue with his beard. I don't know if it will ever be clean/white again. 8O I'll keep trying though!!
Hi,

Definately a well groomed fluffy dog!!! Great job!
He looks just like a OES Christmas tree ornament my mom got me for Christmas last year. I'll have to dig it out and take a picture and we can compare ;)
Too gorgeous! Looks like a model for a sheepdog puppet!
Chris
Carl, how big is Martin? The picture of "the hug" is amazing!!! You must have extreme patience in the grooming department for martin to look that incredible!!! I keep Panda in puppy-cut and it still seems to take forever to groom her :D I really am amazed by your pictures!!!
Darcy
Darcy,

Overall Martin is a pretty big boy. He is abut 23 inches tall, not the tallest by any means but his weight comes in at about 95lbs. This comes from him being a bit long in the body and very full and solid in his chest, shoulders and legs. (He probably also has about 5 lbs of hair on him!)
However don't let that size fool you, he is amazingly strong and agile. A couple of weekends ago I was talking with our daughter and Martin decided it was his turn for daddy's attention. So from a sitting position he jumped up to say "I'm here too dad" and had his nose not met my nose I'm sure his head would have gone higher than mine and I'm 6'3"! Only problem was that when his nose hit mine the "bendy bit" squidged sideways and his teeth and muzzle were right behind it. He ended up really smacking me hard. At first I thought he had broken my nose but as it turned out he only gave me a couple of slightly black eyes for a day. (And who says love doesn't hurt from time to time! )

Now if you ask Martin he will tell you two things,
1. I'm only as big as my head, and
2. I'm not big, I'm a lap dog!
Believe me he has crawled up into our laps on many occassions and if his head fits somewhere he believes his body can and will follow, under the computer table, under the dog tables, on our bed.....

In the "hug picture" he is of course standing on the table. We didn't pose that photo, I just asked for a kiss and he decided get up and hug me so he could kiss me better. Actually this is Martin's "Vulcan" side, no mind melds, just lung melds - Daddy, my lungs to your lungs, your air is mine.

Thanks and Cheers

Carl
That is a good solid weight for his height!
He sounds wonderful... and I think they all think they are big furry lap dogs....lol....
Carl, Thanks for the reply....He IS large!! Panda is only 56lbs...They are all lap dogs. Panda jumps up on Brian when he is sitting in his chair, except there really isnt enough room for both of them, but she still tries every nite :D
Darcy
  I tought I was the only one with two 80 pound lap dogs!!!

Willowsprite, I like your new avatar!!! Who made the drawing?
Martin is absolutely GORGEOUS, I would like one of his big furry hugs myself  You have done a superb job on his coat.
Loried

Thanks for your kind words on Martin's coat and our efforts in keeping it at a high standard.

Martin Zephram is a very loving boy and really enjoys making new friends - just beware of the 100 mph nose!! Also meeting Martin may be dangerous to your air supply  so be sure you don't mind sharing your air with him, no actually giving all your air to him!! If anyone is in the Ottawa area give us a call ahead of time and I'm sure we can arrange to meet. Bring your Bobtail(s) as well and we'll arrange a play day and run at the "dog field".

Thanks and Cheers
