Think of Virginia tomorrow, she is getting spayed

Of course, I know that this is a common procedure, but still I will be on pins and needles until I get that call from the vet saying she is recovering nicely. She has only been part of our family for a short time, but I love her beyond measure, my little lovebug girl.

Good luck Virginia! :hearts: :crossed:

Will be thinking of you sweet Virginia! Can't wait to hear it is all over and you are home!!
:hearts: Best wishes to Virginia tomorrow! :hearts:
:hearts: Wishing Virginia a smooth surgery tomorrow :hearts:
I will be thinking of you guys and Virginia today.
:ghug: :ghug:

It's always difficult on us when they are away at the vet.

Good luck Virginia. And remember to request a lot of pampering and ice cream when you get home. You should be able to sleep on the king size bed all by yourself tonight. For your comfort and recovery of course.
Good luck with the surgery! And good luck not feeling horrible for making her wear THE CONE!!!!

We need an emoticon for that :)
Good luck, we are all upset when we have to leave them at the vet. I know you will be very happy when this day is over and she does deserve everything she wants when she gets home.
Thinking of you! Waiting is the hardest part.
Hoping Virginia will soon be back on her feet.
Any news yet?
She is out of it still. She can barely stand up, poor thing. David is going to sleep on the sofa to be close to her. Normally she sleeps beside the bed upstairs, but we want to avoid her climbing the stairs until she is more steady. I just love her, I hate to see her like this. Between Gracie and her explosive diarrhea and Virginia, it has been a long day.
Probably a good idea to skip the stairs tonight! 8)

I hope you all have a quiet and uneventful evening and night. :hearts: :crossed:
We're all concerned about Virginia, but more importantly, how is David? Is he resting comfortably? Does he need more pillows or maybe some warm milk?

   I really needed that double good laugh!!
Get well Virginia, you are such a sweet girl! That's hilarious about David!
:hearts: :hearts: How is Virginia doing today? Hope all is well. I bet her 'little girls' will take good care of her. Snuggles do wonders for healing. :hearts: :hearts:   :ghug:
Virginia was massively out-of-it last night, I had a hard time waking her up from the back seat of the car when we got home, and basically we put her in her bed and she slept like a rock until 4 a.m. I slept downstairs on the couch so she wouldn't feel the need to go upstairs and to attend to her if she woke. Mady slept downstairs too, right next to Virginia's bed. She seemed rather alarmed and worried about Virginia. I took Gracie and Mady out at 4 a.m. and Virginia woke up, I had to guide her outside, it was like she's was sleepwalking. She did pee, but had no interest in food or water. I put her up on the couch to sleep (she does prefer it to her bed), but she walked over to my segment of the couch and snuggled in beside me and we slept for another couple of hours. This morning she was still very slow and quiet, I'm afraid she's in pain, we gave her her pain meds and she wanted to come out on her usual morning walk with Mady. Was a very slow walk and Mady is still concerned, she stays glued to Virginia. :aww: And she did eat and drink a bit.

The difficult bit will be keeping Gracie from her usual snarling jumping nipping she does at Virginia. But I think Gracie is catching on. Kim is staying home today with the girls.
Im glad she did well. Lily didnt have interest in food til the next night. I guess its normal for the 1st 2 days for no interest in food and she was slow the first 3 days. The 4th day the sheepie started to come back out and now were thinking uh oh.....

Lily says the surgery is the easy part virginia, its the stayin off the furniture and wearing a cone thats hard!
Celyn was just like that as well. Virginia will be fine. You guys try and get some rest. :hearts: :hearts: To the gang Debs x
Thanks for the update, glad she is doing okay. I guess they know when to eat and drink, but it is still a worry. Give her a kiss on the nose from us.
Go slow, allow her to tell you what she can do. My OES bitches were always slower to recover than the Pyr girls.......and we've talked about the Wolfhound and the fence.

Initially being drugged was unpleasant, now the discomfort of the inscision. Being Virginia, she will milk this for all the Dave snuggles she can garner.
It's got to be ouchie. Such a good mom and dad. :hearts:

Darby and Kaytee came out of anesthesia slower as they got older. They
gave more fluids during sedation the next time, and both did much better.
Maybe it helps clear the system faster?
Today was a long day. Mady is playing nursemaid to Virginia, though, which helps. When Gracie tries to get at Virginia, Mady heads her off and plays with her. It is quite touching, really. I am feeling bad about our timing with this. Why the heck didn't we wait a few months until Gracie was older? I didn't think this through, all I could think of was accidental Rottweiler/Sheepie puppies from going to the dog park at the wrong time. :twitch:
Kim don't worry so much. Virginia will be back to herself in no time and Mady will continue to take care of Gracie. And with you and Daivd worrying everything will be fine. Virginia just needs a day or two of rest.

1st she will be fine honestly just will take a few days. 2nd If you had had accidental pups we would all have given them homes :)

Mady is such a sweet nurse :hearts: :hearts:

OK, let's review this before Gracie grows up: not in season, can't have accidental litters. In season, not visiting dog park. It's simpler than you think. ;-)

Anyway, done is done, and since you were going to do it anyway, there's really no ideal time, so now was as good as any. Give it another 48 hours and you'll be having a hard time keeping her quiet. Critter can be crated in the mean time to give her some peace.

Back to review: evil critter, potential show dog, will have seasons. Train her. Train often, train young, keep training. I take my intact bitches to class when they are in season (and around other trained dogs, I'm not totally nuts) and on occasion they've been in a long down next to an intact male. Sure, there was some whining and wiggling on the adoring Aussie's part, but they both knew their job.

This is why the Europeans - remember Grete's question? - don't have to butcher their dogs (keeping in mind that I just had Sybil spayed, just saying) to prevent unwanted litters: they train them. And kudos to them for that.

On the plus side, you don't have to worry about pyo, and that IS a relief. She'll be fine. David? Hard to say :sidestep:

That's jaw dropping information! 8O 8O 8O
Wonder what title and number of ribbons they earn for that training!
And I whined about the CGC.

And back to Virginia, how is she feeling?
So glad Virginia is on the mend. It is so hard NOT to worry...they can't tell you where they are hurting..but you can see it in their eyes....
Glad she is on the mend....In a day or two when she is wanting to run and jump all around, you will be pulling your hair out trying to keep her quiet. She will be fine and will heal just fine...If you ar not liking the cone head, try the Comfy Cone. I got mine at Pet Co and it was great. Like the e collar, but softer...

Sending healing prayers out to Virginia...and to the humans too! :ghug: :ghug: :ghug:
Does the comfy cone allow them to walk around without hitting walls? We have a small house and poor Virginia just keeps hitting things. Does she have to wear this thing for the entire two week recovery?

You would be amazed how quickly they adapt to it. I have taken it off when they go outside to do their business, eat & to drink. Sleeping in it is no problem. Once I was home for the evening, I would take it off as long as I had the dog with me & could watch them. I had one girl who had to wear it for 8 weeks while 2 surgeries on her leg healed. She spent the day in the back of my van with it on while I was at work so I could check on her & when she was in the dog run she figured just how to navigate with it on & would be running all over the place. Some dogs don't bother stitches at all. Others :lmt: ......better to be safe than sorry with the alternative.

Yes, you train your dog.
Chewie is intact, and he is expected to behave (and does) and think when females in heat are around him.
We have been in many rally and obedience trials that are in conjunction with all breed shows...so female dog in heat were all around us.
It's that exact training that allowed me to transport his in heat sister Martha on a 6 hour car trip and not have any issues. Martha was in the front, Chewie in the back. Both got told to "leave it" and stay, and we made the entire 6 hour trip without incident. 8)

i would try panties it worked for all my dogs
So glad Virginia is doing well. :yay: :yay: Call me ignorant but why are the cones put on anyway? None of my dogs that were spayed ever had one and even when one had ACL surgery, no cone. My dogs always left the incisions alone and if they did show an interest in them, all i said was uhuh and it was fine. I would rub the area around the incision where they were shaved because I new it itched. I also used neopredf antibiotic powder that also helped the itching as well as healing. The only time one had a 'rubbermaid neat & tidy' bucket(really that was what it was because the cone was so big & would not fit thru the car door) was when she had eye surgery and it was to protect the eye. She was so frustrated with the thing catching on things, she figured out how to get it off. It was pointless to keep puttig it back on se I left it off. She left it alone and the eye healed great and no infection.
I keep it on when we can't watch her because she does try to lick at the incision. It is just so pitiful to hear her walking into things. She is such a good natured girl, though, nothing gets her down. I do love my Miss Virginia! :hearts:
