Help me make my sheepdog feel better

can anyone tell me what to do when a sheepdog gets an allergic reaction to the vaccinations. My dog had his annual shots yesterday and is very lethargic and can't move into or out of the down position very well. I took him to the animal hospital today and they gave him a cortisone shot which hasn't helped him much. I would really appreciate any insite if someone already went through this. thanks.

Vaccinations are being hotty debated in the animal world right now, and as I understand you should never give rabies vaccinations at the same time as the others. I personally am very worried and cautious about vaccinations. Here is a link to an article arguing the anti vacination point. [page is no longer available]
As to your pup I would get on line and research as much as possible today at least until you have a good understanding of the subject and possible solutions. I don't think there is much that can be done however for the reaction. Stay in touch with your vet, call another vet, get the manufactures name for the vaccinations and call them.
Hi
if your dog hasn't improved any and he has to go back to the vets ask him to check for Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia .This disease can be brought out after vaccines .
Please let us know how it goes, and don't wait to check for auto immune diseases. The first bout of immune mediated hemolytic anemia is usually as you described, lethargic, etc... it usually goes into a kind of remission though for days, months, or years, and the second time an episode happens it is almost always fatal. Simply put, their red blood cells are attacked by their own immune system, break down and the dog essentially bleeds to death from the inside out. I don't mean to be so graphic, but it is deadly serious.
If it is caught early enough it can be treated. It is usually, though not always, brought on by vaccines. A dog with immune problems usually has thyroid problems as well, so please make sure the vet is thorough and gets your dog feeling better quickly.
I have no advice to offer but wish you all the best.
Sam had her 3 year rabies shot 2 weeks ago with a few other shots. She was a totally different dog the next day. I was getting cocerned about her behavior but she was back to normal the next day. I will research the link Rodger's Dad posted for any more shots.
I am just writing to update on the past help I asked for. I am so relieved and happy to say my dog's blood work up came back normal and he is as active as before he was vaccinated. I just want to say that I wish I was informed from my FORMER vet of the dangers of getting an OES vaccinated. He became anemic and we went through several weeks of worrying about it being hemolytic anemia. I took him to a holistic vet and she put him on a special diet with supplements and some homeopathic protocol and he came through it. I can't tell you how lucky I feel. I will NEVER get him vaccinated again other than the required rabies and I will take precautions doing that. Please take the time to do research and see what the vaccines are that your vet wants to give your dog. I was amazed at what I was vaccinating him for. It makes me so mad that I thought I was doing the responsible thing. I just wish I would have been warned and did the research first so my dog wouldn't have had to suffer like he did.
Glad to hear your dog is ok :D

I lost my Dylan to Autoimmunne Hemolytic Anemia (see rainbow bridge) in May. He was a rescue and i know he was vaccinated in November and given up for rescue in December. When i got him he showed no signs of illness apart from being underweight.
Four days before he became ill i treated him with a well known flea and tick treatment .Although i don't know this caused Dylans illness to show itself i know for sure my remaining OES will not be getting this brand of treatment again .
