I brought her into my vet who had me go to Tufts animal hospital to for emergency care. They are running tests and my bill up!! They are rulling out many things such as bowel obstruction, which was neg on xray, blood work for Addisons disease, worms, paracites any thoghts or dogs that have had similar symptoms?? Her heart rate is low normal. thanks

Addison's Disease is a deficiency of adrenal cortical hormone. It's not as common as Cushing's Disease which is an excess of adrenal cortical horomones. Cushings tends to be in middle age to older dogs, Addison in young to moderate age. Cushings shows up more in the skin, coat, scratching, oil stinky coat. Addison's has many of the symptoms you've described: diarrhea, vomitiing, poor appetite, etc.

While this is costing you $$$, Addison can kill a dog quickly, so best he's under special care. An acute adrenal crisis can lead to heart failure, blood pressure prolbmes. If it is Ad's, then the treatment is supplements with frequent workups to check for fluid balance, electrolites, etc. Dogs with Addison can live a good long life.

I hope they find out what's wrong soon. Do I dare mention having Dr. Dobson out in Calif run some tests too? I fear Tufts wouldn't approve of another vet looking on. Pity, as Dr. Dobson has had a great deal of work with OES.
thanks, I spoke to the md a little while ago. She said Mopsey if she has addisons has only the cortisol deficiciency, and if so would need oral meds, not injections, her white blood cells have not increased as they normally do from the stress of being there, so that is another white flag for Ad, but the test for it will come back in am, they will try to give her some solids and see if she keeps it down, she is on an antibiotic for bowel upset also, so I hope its not Ad, I hope it is worms or paracite but as she said it could be alot worse and ad is treatable as you said also, thanks will let you know how it turns out!!
A very close family member of mine has Addison's disease - I am very well versed in it in humans.
Hi jan,
Sorry to hear Mopsy is not feeling well, and at Tufts for
testing. In researching TTouch I found a site on
Addisons disease in dogs...

Its www.addisondogs.com

Please keep us updated on her progress...

Jan just called me and the great news is the test came back negative for Addison disease. It was a case of Hook Worms. It is real sad that Jan had to spend alot of money to be told that it was a case of Hook Worms.Be very diligent about getting your dog tested for any type of worms. Some good news and some bad news.
I hope things better soon.... the meds should help the pup feel better quickly :)
Yes Mopsey is home now, and feeling so much better, it cost me $1600 for them to figure out hook worm, and my poor baby has been suffering probably for months since I got her, most likely she had it at the shelter where I got her!! So crazy!! But awfully glad its not addisons disease!!
While hook worms can be hard to get rid of, you are right, it's not Addison's!!! Hopefully the pupper will be better soon.
