Hanging out in the tub

My dog has never been fond of baths and has never gone into the tub on my command. I have to drag her, kicking and pulling from the farthest corner of our house to the bathroom, then finagle her through the door, and call to the boyfriend for help plopping her rump into the bath because she suddenly weighs 300lbs. She's fine once she's in, but clearly wants the affair over as quickly as possible.

Within the past two weeks, however, she's taken an odd interest in being in the tub. Every so often I hear a this hollow, echoing plop-squeak-tap-click-tap-click, and it's her getting into the tub, on her own accord, with no one else around. She's just in it. She isn't thirsty; I tried turning the faucet on to a drizzle, and she'll drink for the sake of drinking, but it's obviously not the main reason she's in there. But obviously I don't know the main reason.

Yesterday we got muddy, so we went to the bathroom to wash her legs. I randomly asked her if she'd just get in the tub without making a fuss, and to my continuing befuddlement, she did. Completely on her own. I didn't touch her. She just climbed right in when I pointed.

Later that evening, I could hear her get in again while I was in the other room.

Today we got muddy again on our morning walk. Thinking yesterday's willingness was a fluke, but hoping that it wasn't, I asked her to get in the tub. ... and again, she did.

What is happening to my dog? Does she want a bath? Does she want attention? Is she trying to be more like her uprights? Does she associate daily showers as part of becoming more human? Anyone have any ounce of insight? I'm totally stumped.

Ryleigh loves baths. She will get in on her own and fall asleep while Im bathing her. And I mean OUT! I have to hold her up. haha she also insists on having her teeth brushed, hair brushed, and "make-up" put on every morning. She sits in the bathroom while I get ready and she wont leave till she has all of hers done too. My husband thinks its hilarious. Just be greatful she nows likes them. My 2 labs being water dogs HATE bath time but love lake time. go figure. haha
I don't know why she suddenly decided she liked baths but don't knock it. Butchy is getting better, he doesn't cry like a baby anymore but he's not happy, still have to convince him he wants a bath and he's going the other way.
Sometimes the dogs like to lay in the bathtub because it's cool and kinda like a cave. Violet used to love to sleep in the shower.

We wash our dogs weekly and China always has to be out smarted. Most times Chuck has to pick her up and carry her to the shower. Asia will go to the shower for me, but I have to walk next to her with my hand on her so she goes where she supposed to. Violet also will walk to the shower, but usually with her head down, like she's walking the green mile.

I can always tell when they are done they feel so much better...clean and smelling so good.

I hope your sheepie keeps up the good dog bath walk.
Very fun, and nice she decided to like the tub!

Harley the basset loves the tub, and even at almost 14, he takes a run and jumps in!!

Chewie tolerates it - I tell him tub, but he has this long suffering look as he walks over and gets in.

Tripper the basset never really cared for it, made quite a show of trying to get over the side but once in he was good.

That's kind of like basset Simon too. He will dodge away if he can, but once in the bathroom, he prefers to jump in under his own power (but needs boosts now), and loves the bathing and body massage!

HAHAHA....that's the exact look panda would give....panda never liked baths but she did learn at an early age, how to open a shower door or push a shower curtain out of the way...she loved to peek in and get her face sprayed, eyes blinking fast at the water spray...

she was also good at laying in front of the shower door, trapping me in there on occassion...me saying ''move panda, momma all done'' and she would give a look of..tough sh&*, i just got comfortable...lol

Sounds like Izzie. I'll say...time for a bath...and she trudges up to Melissa's bathroom and sits in the dark

I don't think Izzie or Taylor has ever gotten in the tub on their own when no bath was imminent :lmt:

I would worry about his ears and eyes being under water so long. My lab get ear infections every time we go to the lake. :|
