Losing Junior coat is driving me NUTS!!

Shy of shaving, does anyone have any thoughts on how to speed this process? I've been walking around the house with a lint roller connected to my belt!!!!! It's maddening!

Sorry to say, but shaving is what got me through. . .
Oh my gosh, us too. We are covered in hair and manical matts that appear overnight. Charm is being very patient with the dematting, but poor baby is scratching a lot too. I'm considering a short cut, not shave. How long is the transition from puppy to junior coat?
Lot's of diligent grooming here.
If you're not showing, you can save sanity and shave...otherwise be prepared for lots of time with a brush in your hand, staying on top of it all.
Mats grow and if you groom, but don't get it all out, they grow and add on faster. You need to work through an entire area and get it all smooth and tangle free. I used to do one side also each day at the peak of it.

How long? - Varies - until the puppy coat is GONE!
Thanks Dawn, I'll try to alternate sides with intense grooming, a good idea. I have been concentrating on different areas each night but brushing all over too. Like you said, any little matt blooms overnight. Charm is scratching too, is that common? Was somewhat worried about winter dryness?
Charm's scratching might be a bit of both - the new coat coming in/the old one coming out, and the dryer winter air.
Try paying attention to where she is itching, and checking for mats, also for dry or irritated skin.
It wouldn't hurt to give her some more fat in her diet...some oil or other supplement on her food is pretty easy. :D
Are you sure the scartching isn't down to some other reason? maybe shampoo left on the skin and not fully rinsed away?

Archie hasn't been a scratcher even through coat transition.
Hmmm, the itching seems mainly along her ribcage(s), and she isn't a frequent bather. I made that error with Chloe and her poor skin was a mess :( . I'll try to gradually add an omega 3 to her diet. She will love that, taking my vitamins!!! One for me, one for Charm seems to be the mantra here lately. Thank you for the advice.

I put Olive oil on Lincoln's dinner it is helping as he is prone to knott up .plus no fishy smell comes out in his coat ,

:tea:
Good idea, didn't know about the smell on the coat from fish oil. That doesn't happen with humans, does it 8O. And I guess shampoo is out too

dont think fish smell come though humans

Sadly the More you Bath, more the coat knots up big time, try combing though each day with wide tooth comb it helps take out dead coat :-)

I gave Tripper, the basset, and Butchy fish oil, never had any fishy smell but sure helped with the basset's shedding.
Thank you, I'll keep up the fish oil for her. Glad it's been a mild winter, it hasn't been so dry in the house.
I am glad that I'm not the only one going through this right now :phew: The hair on my clothes and around the house can be maddening!!!! I have stored a lint brush next to the coat rack and have to give us all a once over before we go out. I am soooo ready for my non-shedding dog back.

Millie has also been scratching and biting herself, and I'm convinced it's due to the coat change. I've noticed small sores where she's been scratching and they seem to be moving around her body in sync with the coat transition. :bulb: Good news is..a little antibiotic ointment for a couple days and the sores are gone.

Thanks for the fish oil/ olive oil advice. How much should be given?
I'm not sure what the answer is, but I started slow as to avoid any GI upset. Charm had three caps this week, and she loves it squirted on her food. So far, no problems. Too bad about the intense scratching, I hope the oil helps Millie. This is a tough time for them. And my dust mop.
I just put the whole cap on top of the dog food - mine eat it right up. :D
No fish oil face hair that way either.

I try and give it to my big dogs daily, and the smaller ones 3 times a week.
Soooooo that's what THAT smell is

I'm such a dummy, never once thought about the oil!!!!!

Sometimes, I am, my best amusement!

Oh Brenda  I needed that good morning chuckle

They still have a little bit of fish breath right after...but cutting them open and putting it on the food has to be so much stronger!
Absolutely, it is much stronger
I just put the capsule in with the food and I've not noticed any smell at all. Maybe it's me.
I have Bentley on the table at least twice a week for a complete line brushing. It is still maddening. I did have a friend who used to groom come over Sunday to teach me how to scissor him. We worked on the poor dog for 4 hours. He is so sweet and patient. I think it has helped. I haven't had an itching problem since I switched his food. When he was a puppy I had him on a very high end dog food. He began itching a day after I bathed him. I thought it was from not getting all the soap or conditioner out of him but as it turned out, two baths later he was still itching. I switched his food and he has been fine. Has there been a dietary change with your OES?

For Charm, yes, we did change her flavor of food but not the brand. I did change her back to the first kibble and she still scratches. Maybe not as bad?!?? Maybe just wishful thinking. Maybe the fish oil?? I did get her clipped in a short puppy cut today. I can't take the loose hair flying about any longer. At least it will be shorter hairs flying about all over
I just got back from the groomers with Dahlia....... Yes, I take her to the groomers and I don't dare to do it myself.

We do constantly brush her and comb her and she has a very short haircut.

Apparently, she was still so matted in places that it took the groomer an extra 40 minutes to work on the mats. I am so embarrassed and feel terrible.

Fortunately, the groomer knows that she is transitioning in coat.

I am hoping this gets better. I don't recall my other sheepie having such terrible mats. I must have blocked that out.

I swear the mats grow over-night around the back of her ears, butt, and belly.......

She didn't charge me for de-matting her this time..... but, told me next time she would have to start charging me.

I feel a bit down and out.
