Topknots and unruly head hair

As promised, I tried something new with Caitlyn and her unruly head of hair. Her hair is not quite long enough for a topknot but is long enough to limit her ability to NOT run into things. So I tried a barrette. This actually worked well until I forgot it was there and went to pat her on the head and it popped out and I couldn’t get it back in. I’m ruling a poor design on this one. I was able to snap a few photos prior to that. Below are what I tried to get while she was on the couch…

This first photo is a bit fuzzy as it was during taking these photos I realized Caity may not like the flash on my iPhone.

This one she finally sat still for.

And now we're getting bored... commence yawning.

We had obedience training last night and since I couldn’t get the barrette back in I used one of Jen’s little tiny claw thingees and that worked really nice. However, I failed to get a photo of that. Next time.

I'm really having issues with the hair on her muzzle. Its like it doesn't know which way to go no matter what I try. Anyone care to give out advice, (with photos would be AWESOME!!!) on what to do with hair like this until it gets longer?

Her clip looks great!

For the hair training, a good rule of thumb is to use the eyes as your guide. Draw an imaginary line between the inner corners. Everything above that line goes up (topknot, clip) and everything below gets combed down either side of her muzzle.
I little water spritzed will help it, but there is a phase where it just needs to grow a bit longer to lay properly. :?
I don't know if the fur is long enough to work, but Amanda has been putting in two ponytails in a row to hold up the shorter hairs and then do a topknot for Izzie and Taylor. I'm at work now, but can get some photos tonight and post.
