Trying Chris Christensen's Ice On Ice

My boys are getting a little long in the hair and it was getting a little difficult to brush them out. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a "little" lazy in the grooming department and difficult brushing usually means its time for a haircut.

Each winter I try to grow them out a little...just for fun :? and I usually just get frustrated and they end up a nasty mess.

So I'm trying to be smart about it this time 8O and knew I needed a little "help". Thanks to Allison, I decided to try Ice on Ice. Its a detangler spray. I start on Simon, my impatient boy who can't understand why I pull on his hair and make him stand for so long(really can't get him to lay down). He had some matts near his butt and around his neck.

Thanks to Ice on Ice Simon doesn't have those matts any longer. He was not patient and it took a lot of restraint to keep me from hogtying him and he's not done by a long shot BUT the Ice on Ice really worked. Its not magic and I did have to cut out two matts but thats a lot better then I usually do. He has really thick cotton candy hair that matts easy.

Next I plan to tackle Gar...who is a dream compared to Simon.

I know exactly how you feel Pam. Mattie is so patient and tolerant of anything. Frankie on the other hand is a PITA.
We got somethings at the dog show yesterday that really helped.
Thanks to Marilyn and Vance.
A Resco coarse comb was the best purchase I made.

I want to try and keep a longer coat this winter also.
Good Luck.
Lisa Frankie and Mattie
Lisa, did you get to meet up with Marilyn? If so, was it a hoot to hang out with at the show? She's very knowledgable and open. And she'll wanna kill me for saying that!!!

I LOVE my Resci comb. I'm actually at work right now doing stuff I can't get done during a normal work day and I will be bathing and grooming both girls when I get home and I really can't wait! I think I've got some kind of grooming disorder....

Vance
It does get better. I didn't start properly grooming Tonks and Luna until really late, and as a result Tonks is AWFUL. she's impatient, she cries and yelps, fidgets, can't wait to run and hide; that sort of stuff.

But this past week she laid on the grooming table (a first) for almost 2 hours! Maybe its the Prozac, but I like to think that perseverance has played its part as well. Her legs and stomach aren't completely done, but we got a hell of a start. So it does get better, with time and practice.

I'm glad you like the Ice on Ice. I've read here on the board to not try and groom a dry dog; to spritz with water as you go; I like the Ice on Ice for that as its also helping with the mats. For more stubborn matts and tangles, I like to use Cowboy Magic. In fact, after the girls come out of the tub, I rub some of the Cowboy Magic on my hands and then squish it into their coats while wet. Not a lot, as it can be kind of thick. And obviously, I'm not showing the girls-- the Cowboy Magic adds a silky quality to their coats that really helps smaller matts slip out and bigger ones be a bit easier to get through.

Please consider a lovely vacation to Atlanta.

I just got a bulk order of Ice on Ice delivered this week! Amber had recommended it and, now that we are a three sheepdog family, I figured the bulk order would be more cost effective. It makes grooming easier.
I love Ice on Ice. It's the ONLY product that I continue to go back to.... the rest I eventually stop buying.
Here's a little Ice on Ice tip that I was given at the Chris Christensen seminar I attended. Add a capful of Christensen Day to Day Conditioner to the Ice on Ice and shake it up to mix. I was told that they are going to eventually be pre-adding the conditioner to the Ice on Ice but for now to just add it myself. It works great!
great tip!!! I have Day to Day; I'm going to try this tomorrow. Thanks!!!!
I love cowboy magic!! I use it on my own head!! I may try mixing the detancler and shine in the rinse But alas I just bathed my dogs.......
I use the Ice on Ice here too and love it! I do not have any of the conditioner but will order that--great tip-thanks!
I do have the Cowboy Magic and YES I use it on me. Since my hair matts easy too :) it works great on it.
We bought a bottle way back when we first got Mady, but I hardly ever used it. But Amber has told me recently we should use it every time we groom. So I am. I'm doing a big grooming of Mady tonight and look forward to the results.

Where do you order it from? I would like to give it a try. Laika is horrible to groom her attitude and her fur suck!
I get it from Cherrybrook.com, but I don't know if they ship internationally
Thanks. Looks like it sets me up with an US forwarding address or something. Weird.

I found https://www.petempire.ca sells it. Might give it a go. Everyone is raving about it.
Then I want it!

I ordered mine from Pet Empire and it arrived the next day! I had never ordered from them before, but I will again.

Yeah, that is why I did a big order. 3 dogs to groom now! :)
I've been using Crown Royal #3 for regular bushings. I use Best Shot when brushing him out at shows. Question about the Ice on Ice and Cowboy Magic. Do these products work okay for both puppy and adult coats and what about a show coat?

Cindy
I found a place that sells it in Halifax! yeah!! no delivery charges.

I looked at my delivery charges and they weren't as bad as yours. Not as far to go, I imagine. Great that you found a place to get it. I love the stuff. So tempted to try it on my hair one day...

Thanks for that information doesn't sound too bad. Good to know. If there is something I cannot find in Canada and close to home. I rather shop locally if possible, I was very happy when I saw it sold in a store here.
We use the Crown Royale #3 here too.

You guys should shop at local shows for this stuff if you want to save shipping (and you can't get it at a local store). This type of stuff is nearly always available from the vendors. I love show shopping! :D
