Snowdogs anyone?

Before you get to excited, I don't have any video for this post, yet.

Am I the only one who has to go outside and all but drag our Sheepies in from the frozen tundra that is our back yard now? It seems Zoey and Caitlyn both like to go out to do their business and then go lay down either in the yard that is snow-covered or the deck that is also snow-covered. When we had Bentley, he was the textbook Mamma's Boy; if Jen wasn't outside with him, he insisted on coming straight back in. No dilly-daddelling. The girls though... no matter the temp, they want to nap in the snow.

So who else has this issue with their Sheepies? Video to follow.

WE HAVE NO SNOW BUT it was 42 here in fl last nite and i could not get my boys in the house and all of a sudden dreamer took off running on my 4 acres like a race horse for no reason .. he love the cold.. hate i have to put them through the hot summers here ..
We haven't had snow yet but has been very cold and windy. Cloud loves it. Given the choice he would sleep outside on the front step. We do have snow forecast and I can't wait to see what he makes of it. Celyn our lovely girl loved snow so we hope that he does too!

As promised - a video. These two knuckleheads barely even take notice of me talking to them. Can you say aloof?

Well, at least the cat listened! :sidestep: Makes you wonder how uncomfortable they are inside the house in our heated homes! Mine are the same. The colder, snowier & blowier it is....the harder it is to get them to come in!
We are sadly snowless here, but mine LOVE it.

Here is a couple winters ago - Chewie and sister Martha, along with Biscuit the lab as a big puppy and granddaughter Breanna.

Bre, Chewie, Martha, Biscuit!

Up and over the 1000 gallon fuel tank...

Biscuit, Chewie and Martha -

Up in Ely, MN, on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA)...his idea of heaven!

Chasing Biscuit last winter -

Hard to snowshow with a sheepdog standing on one ...

and this is how deep it was when he didn't stand on it - he learned quick!

Biscuit - you're it!

PS - here's a model for that sled you will be making.... 8) :D

...so you can enjoy this!

and showing some rookie Samoyeds how to be sled dogs!! :high5: :high5:
I love how they totally ignore you calling them in.....lol

Is so nice not to be alone 'One word from Vance and they do exactly what they want'

I think this is one of the reasons we love sheepies so much

its so funny to see, even in snowy weather...that they lay in the shade...Panda was the same way...even at night with a moon...she would lay in the shade rather than the sun or moonlight...

I had a hard time getting panda in with treats......it was the same ''la la la la la..i doonnntt hear youuuu'' :?
doesnt snow here, but bloo will lie outside in minus weather! and when it rains! He ignores me like that!! :P I have to vertally drag him in.
Looks a little like a case of 'selective hearing' :D
Mao just loves the white stuff.

I met a couple 2 weeks ago while walking mao around the lake. (it seems I meet a lot of former sheepdog owners who come up to me to talk about their experience with their oes). that couple told me they lived north of Montreal and that there sheepdog preferred to sleep outside in the cold.

I met a lot of former sheepdog owner who come to pet Mao and take the opportunity to talk about their experiences with their sheepdog. All of them told me it was the best dog they ever had. One told me in tears that his dog Charlot died in his arms at age 14. One told me his dog lived to 19 years old. The guy who told me the story about his dog dying in his arms also told me to be careful while he is young not to make him run to much to protect his hips.

Funny thing is I have not yet met a current sheepdog owner (other than this group). It seems like this breed might have been more popular 20 years ago and not as much anymore, at least in the Montreal area, which is strange, because, as with the title of this topic, sheepdogs do seem to be more comfortable in cold rather than in hot weather.

We have a little bit of snow in Montreal but are s till waiting fo a real snowstorm.

Is there such a thing as a snow dance?

Yes there is and I think Zoey is at an Olympic level with hers. I'll post youtube links tonight.
