Great! I was going to suggest this one too. So many of my friends have read it and really recommend it. I just haven't made the effort to pick it up yet. This would be a good reason to! I for it!
I am trying to read it right now. So far it's been a bit slow and and confusing, but I do think it will get better. I decided to go see the movie, and it was really good. So, I'm back at the book. I would love to see what others think if you all decide on it for the book club. :D
I have got the book but havent started it yet
It is VERY SLOW starting, but stick with it. Somewhere along the way it clicks and you can't put it down. (warned a friend who was about to start it......don't give up!!! She thanked me often) Second book is.......ho-hum and the finishes with a bang in book 3.
I read it and really enjoyed it. Couldn't stop there and read the other three right away.

Definitely worth a read. I have them on Kindle and would gladly read each of them again.
I read all 3.

If you haven't started with the first, you should know that the first part (maybe first 100 pages) are slow going, but it picks up once Lisbeth is introduced.

The second thing you need to know is that the subject matter is a bit rough. There is a lot of violence, especially sexual violence.

Third: as unlikely as it seems, the books are addicting. I really put off reading the first for a long, long time, and then, once I got into it, quickly finished and ran out to get the second and then the third.

The main character is very, very compelling. I am not entirely happy/satisfied with some aspects of the book and characters, but very engrossing.
Agreed. It takes awhile to get going (further confused by a lot of Swedish streets and places that, if you aren't familiar with, are a bit hard to keep up with) but once the story starts moving, it's hard to put down. I kept putting down TGWTDT for close to 3 months until I went on vacation and committed to it. Then I read the other 2 by the end of the same week.

I want to see the American movie but I think the performance by Noomi Rapace in the Swedish version is going to be very hard to top. It will be interesting to see the story done on a huge budget, though, and I love David Fincher.
Susan and Jill----Thanks for assuring me that it is a slow starting book. I was beginning to think that maybe it was just over my head  I will stick with it. I hope none of this stuff in the beginning is going to need to be remembered later on, cause I'm not sure much is sinking in. I get the overall idea of what is taking place, but as for all the details...no way!!!
It only helps if you live or plan to visit Sweden
I have a hard time with things that move slow in the beginning. It will take me forever to finish anything like that...but I guess I'll try...

Someone mentioned another book...was it Hugo? Or was that a movie to see
Hugo is a film and it is excellent. I didn't see the 3D version, but heard it was good and didn't give headaches (which is why I avoid 3D). Highly recommend.

Sometimes, if a book is slow in the beginning, I have been known to skip ahead to the middle or end, read a bit to see if it looks interesting enough to continue. It almost always does.

I am game for Girl with the Dragon Tattoo if everyone else is. Or open to other suggestions....

SOOOOO true! It's a fantastic series! A must must must read!
Saw the movie and now have book 2 and 3 on audio. Can't wait to start but way behind on other books :(
Fantastic book but not for the faint of heart! Super slow to start out..seriously I thought about putting it down but boy am I glad I didn't. All of a sudden..wham! He probably could have broken the book into two separate ones. The second 2 in the series are good but not nearly as fantastic as the first one.
