We are having filets and Champange (Asti) too~~~

Doesn't that sound so nice, relaxing and a great way to begin a NEW YEAR????????? (it does to me!!!)

Have a Happy New Year Darcy and Brian..... :ghug:
We honestly don't know yet!

Usually we get together and have a party w/ the BIL's and SIL's - cards, movies, games, along w/ food and drink.

But this year with it on a Saturday, we are running into the conflict of their weekly Saturday poker tournament (family and friends, meet every Saturday). With last Saturday being Christmas eve, they skipped it, and most want to play tomorrow. I never go, as it's way too smoky (cigs) and I really don't like cards.

So...???? :lmt:
We've never been to a New Year's party! Nor have we done the bar scene, ball room scene, casino scene, etc. Fuddy duddies I guess.

We'll be still working on the turkey I roasted on the 26th. Big bird but will be near the end! DH adores turkey. Early to bed. I bought a humidifer in hopes on conquering this cough. Last night was better than the last 2 weeks.

Early Jan 1 a.m. we'll settle in with the orange juice & champagne, last of the Christmas cookies (always set some back in the freezer) and watch the Rose Parade. Yeah it's Sunday and a feast day at that at church, but this has been our tradition since year one. For awhile it was, "Next year we see this in person" or "next year we volunteer to decorate a float" but that is now past. It's doubtful we'll finish the champagne, years past when we did, we went back to bed
Yeah... like a few others here... I'm not a party person. My ideal of exciting and wild is game night with friends.

We were supposed to do something with family (mil had all kinds of hats, sparklers, etc), and I even baked a lot for it but last minute today... Mr. J was given a one hour notice to head offshore in Louisiana. He has no idea how many days he'll be gone.

I'm hoping for some pizza for the kids, a healthy shake for me, and relaxing!!!
We are going to do an old family recipe of Hot Tamales and Chili and of course some good champagne LOL. My father made these on New Years Eve every year when he was with us.

It has taken me about 5 years to finally locate the parchment paper wrap ( everyone wants to sell corn husk for these and that won't work with his recipe)! I literally have thousands of sheets of the WRONG parchment paper that I have ordered over the years trying to get the right thing! People assure me that it is right and turns out they are wrong!

Finally think I have the right paper (not really sure as it does look a little different) but going to go with it!

So we should have Hot Tamales and Chili then watch a good movie! Ring in the new year with a great bottle of Champagne--

I really am NOT a fan of New Years--but try to do something special for the family. Both my children are going to parties this year but will come for the left-over Tamales and Chili on New Years Day!
Tony and I are on a cruise round the Canary Islands and will be celebrating New Year with dancing and drinking!
Having another couple & a widowed friend (and her toy poodle) over for the evening. Snacks, wine, beer & good conversation! I don't like to leave the house for this holiday. Sunday will be watching the STEELERS vs. the browns. Can you tell which one I root for?
We are going to dress up and go dancing! It's something we never do, usually in bed by ten, but not this year. The local hotspot for oldies has a band playing Oldies :excited:
It'll definitely be different
I worked as a roadie for several years in the late 80s so I've had more than my share of people who drink too much so I do whatever I can to avoid them. Sadly this includes some of my own family 8O

Jen volunteered us to watch the grandkids and they arrive at our house tomorrow around noon. I'll be taking them, Jen and the kids back to the kid's house tomorrow night and I get to return to a then quiet house; just me and the girls... I'm looking forward to it a bit.

Vance
I had to laugh at dancing to the oldies band...like, what are considered oldies now? I listen to this radionstation for "oldies" and theya re playig The Rolling Stones, steppenwolf and some disco stuff...Oldies? I guess I am an oldie!

We are the hate new years group....staying home and was planning to have our own little party of apps and cocktails and a round of scrabble...But hubby had a diviticulitis attack and can't eat antyhing but broth so not sure what appetizers we'll be having :cow: And I'm sure in bed before the midnight hour!!!!

You know, there is a saying, what you are doing New Years Eve is what you'll be doing the rest of the year....for us its spending the night with our dogs and going to bed early
For the Greeks, it's what you are doing on New Year's Day that determines your year. :D I feel like all I do is clean, especially with Mr. MRSA here  , so I will spend tomorrow mopping and scrubbing and bathing the dog, so New Year's Day is free of toilet scrubbing! A gal can dream, can't she?????? :excited:

Hubby is making his famous chicken pot pie (from scratch) and apple pie (from scratch) for dessert. I love me a Greek man that can cook! We've been married for 19 years for a reason.

Happy New Year everyone!

My college bf was a HUGE steeler fan. I amso NOT into sports but I Do remember bubby Brister and chuck knoll. Lol
I haven't decided what I'm doing, if anything tomorrow night, but in the morning, Teddy and I are making the 2 hour drive to visit my parents. I plan on being home in the early evening since I don't want to be on the road with the party people.

Cindy
We're also in the not-party-people camp. Just going to the movies with friends (We Bought a Zoo), then a light dinner, then home before the bewitching hour. I'll watch a little of the stuff going on in Times Square, but I'm sure I'll say more than once - better them than me! Those crowds would just do me in! NOT my idea of a good time!
Neighbors asked me over for scrabble, card games etc., go out to dinner.
We'll see. this cold has kicked my ass.I just want to sleep.
NYD will wake up and watch parade, and then the Bronco's game.......

and Love and play with my dogs and Peeper Kitty.

Our one and only time in NYC(about five yrs ago) was Times Square on New Years Eve. Our hotel was 1/2 block away from where the ball dropped. We could hear the music, watch the crowds from our window. Couldn't get right down in there because they corral them in now and if you leave the corral(like to go to the bathroom) you are out and can't get back in.

Fun...but never again.

No plans...as of yet. Some friends MAY be coming over. New Years day, watching the Packers win yet another game :)
Dutch will sleep and I will read and munch on chocolates
We are not big crowd people either.
We are going out to dinner for a New Years Eve 6 course meal. Home by 10 asleep by 11.

Up at midnight when all of the fireworks and gun shots go off to comfort the dogs.

Happy New Years to all.

Lisa Frankie and Mattie
New years eve is family time for me :) Come midnight fireworks will be set off around the area and all the ships out at sea will start blasting their horns and flashing there lights on and off :D It's fun to watch and to hear all the ships from across the world celebrate all at once :D

New years day will start with an early morning walk alond the beach followed by a family meal.
moms got some nibble bits like pork pie and baked spuds to pput out on the table..then we sit trying to stay awake to watch big ben go dong dong HAPPY 2012!!!
I :ghug:
Just realized the Rose Parade isn't until MONDAY.........well, pooh. What to do tomorrow?
I am going to visit with some family, maybe a couple glass of champagne and head home before midnight. We're old fuddy duddy's too I quess. Did all that crazy partying in my younger years. :phew:
We were boring when we were young, and we aren't getting any less boring as we get older... 8O

Dinner and then going to look at the lights at the Columbus Zoo. It has kind of become a tradition for us. A quiet end to the holiday hustle and bustle.

Probobly Red Lobster-- nothing extreme or different. My golly, we are settled. Don't know if that is good or bad. :|

Watching Big Ben would be worth staying up for.

Vance
We're going out for dinner and drinks with 2 other couples, and then probably back to our place for champagne and snacks until we fall asleep or the New Year comes; whichever happens first!

I'm excited to have a reason to put on a dress and wear nice shoes (read as "not for the dog park"); even if its still a bit on the casual side!

ah thats whats wrong :lmt: , I've been following the wrong saying , here it's what you do on your birthday that determines your year. so look out tomorrow cause I'll be singing, dancing and laughing preparing for a grand and glorious 2012 :rimshot:
It's 6:30pm (Chicago time) New Year's Eve and I'm already in my pjs. Went to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie at 10:30 this morning, then had a big lunch and did a little shopping. Home by 4:30. Now I'll surf a bit, watch a little tv, eat potato chips (the last hurrah before the lifestyle chanage) and maybe read.

Who has a more exciting life than me?????
We went shopping for a TV for my husband most of the day. Ate lunch at a Mexican place. We are now home and will stay here all night.
I think it is interesting that most of us stay home and don't party on New Years Eve.
I didn't do a lot of it when I was younger. When I was bartending I got sick of how drunk they all got. I don't drink so why go watch a bunch of drunk people.
We will watch a little TV or maybe try to set up the new one so that Dale can watch football all day tomorrow.
I need to find the rest of my winter clothes as the weather is getting much colder this next week. I guess I will go through storage containers tomorrow. Carley will have fun with that. She wants to know what is in each one.
Happy New Years to everyone. I hope you have a happy and healthy year in 2012.

thanks for sharing all your sheepies and putting a smile on my face in 2011. 8)

Happy New Year to you and yours.

:wag:
Well, we ended up at home. I woke up with the flu...diarrhea all day, now puking this evening.
What an absolutely horrid day!

Todd's poker game got cancelled d/t the younger ones going out and the winter storm we are in. So he stayed home too.
Just rain so far and temp of 36F. Temp supposed to drop, north and west of us is in the snow already. Icy mess in the works.

Hope you all had a more memorable (in a good way) day! :D
We went out for pizza at Pi (my daughter and I shared a gluten free pizza with capicola and tomatoes, my dh and son split a meat lovers deep dish) it was fantastic! Then we went down the street to Fitz's and had soda floats. We each got a different flavor and shared. We were back home by 8:00 p.m. and I'm already in my p.j.'s (in my defense, I do have bronchitis, so I am allowed to be lounging early).

My 13 year old daughter is at a party at the neighbor's house. It's the first time she's gone to a party without me and I am trying not to worry about her. She is only 6 houses away and there are tons of adults present, so why am I worrying? I am being so overprotective and I know it, but I can't help it!!!

I will not call. I will not call. I will not call......... Yeah, right.
Well, we HAD a New Year's party all planned.

We invited a bunch of friends to join us for prime rib, champagne and a games night

Then, early this afternoon....the storm hit 8O

Snow, wind, extra cold (sub zero F) temps and....a massive power outage

We had to call everyone and cancel, since no stove to cook the prime rib, and no heat! :twitch:

Scott, the dogs and I have spent the whole day curled up in blankets in front of the fireplace reading by oil lamp light. It was kinda fun (and VERY cozy!) but now that the lights are back on, we are uncertain whether to call our friends back and try for at least the games-playing part of the party. Its too late for the prime rib...but we could whip up sandwiches or something :lmt: Unfortunately, power outages here often occur more than just once per storm, and Id hate to have them come out only to have the power go down again.

Oh well
Red Lobster- Wildlights at the Zoo- home by 10:00. I am in my Pj's now, and we are watching the OSU basketball game that we DVR'd while we were gone.

The lights at the zoo were beautiful as always. Nice night- chilly, but clear. Not even a hint or hope for snow here anytime soon. We are bummed!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM OUR HOUSE TO YOURS. RING IT IN, AND LET 2012 BEGIN!!!
We rang it in quite well! Our 7:30pm dinner ran until 11:30! We ended up with one less designated driver than expected (oops!) so all 6 of us crammed into one car, made it back to our place in time to pop the cork on some champagne and watch our neighbors set off some really outstanding fireworks! I was in bed by 2am, and up again at 9 with a lovely cup of coffee and no regrets from the night before!

Here are some fun pictures; I took my Christmas present new camera with us:

the view of our table about 1/2 way through the night; LOTS of yummy drinks, most of which were champagne based!

Adam and another local artist friend hamming it up

me on the left with 2 of our friends

we had a stellar night!
Good pixs and love the streak in your lovely hair!!
Great pics. Looks like everyone had a great time.
Looks like a great evening!
