fibro anyone?

just wondering if any of the OES people on here also suffer from fibro

I KNEW when I did the outdoor Christmas display yesterday I would pay for it... and now I'm in a flare.

but hubby with his still healing shoulder and surgery in his near future, wasn't going to do it
and our kids LOVE it, as does the neighborhood (lights to music, etc...)

so. just wondering if there is anyone around to commiserate with. :?:

Sorry to hear about the fibro flare-up :x I don't have that myself, but I do have rhuematoid arthritis. I also get flare-ups and they are not fun. I hope you feel better soon. What can you do to feel better?
I have Cluster Headaches and one of the meds they prescribed for me was on that is advertised for Fibro call Lyrica. It worked great on my headaches, but absolutely KILLED my memory, long and short-term and my concentration too. This was back when I was in college and it made passing tests literally impossible. I've been off that stuff for three years and still suffer from memory issues. Jen will ask me to get something from our pantry, which is about twelve feet from the kitchen and most times I'll forget what she wanted before I get there. Yeah, it's that bad... I hope if you take this or are looking at it this doesn't happen to you.

Jen has ostio-arthritis and we're searching for something to help with the ever-increasing pain.

Pepsi'sMommy has Fibro. You can always send her a pm. She's a sweetheart and very helpful.
finally got the laptop back from my daughter so I can make a long-winded reply

so- when first diagnosed they put me on lyrica. while it did seem to help the pain I feel from
touch, I gained 25 pounds in 2 months and felt like I was starving constantly. Considering I had
worked my butt off the year before on Atkins and lost 40 pounds, I wasn't very happy with that!

bye bye to Lyrica.

on a daily basis I take:
cymbalta
neurontin
zanaflex
sleeping pill (sonata or ambien)
percocet
sometimes ultram (doesn't work that well for me)

I also do chiropractic
acupuncture
body work/massage
hot baths
lidocaine patches for problem muscle areas
chinese herbs
vit D
omega 3

and I'm still in pain. I have suffered from daily migraines for 15 years, but just had
botox injections for those, and those are down to once a week. Praise the Lord!
in the past for migraines I've done everything... PIC line to my heart for DHE, scalp injections,
meds of every type, etc... Botox is the first thing I've done (other than be pregnant) that I
have had any real relief from
thi
having Cambridge is so good for me. he keeps me moving. my poodle is very laid back and would lay in bed with me all day. having to walk and play with C, while painful sometimes, gets me up and moving, and is good for me

for flares I just take more pain meds and do very little, and eventually I'll get through it... this will be my first holiday season with fibro, and I'm sure it'll be hard- my MIL is coming next week- and will be here for 11 days. I'll be doing more and going out more than usual and I'm sure it will take a toll.

for those wondering how people with RA, fibro, etc... feel- google The Spoon Theory. It is exactly how I feel.
I don't have fibro but I do have Polymyaligia Rheumatica which my dr says mimics fibro, the only difference is PMR responds to prednisone and fibro doesnt. I take 10mg of prednisone a day, gained weight but it has made a tremendous diffenence in how I feel. She tries to lower the dosage but 10 seems to work for me.

I do have a cousin with fibro and she did yoga which helped some but the lyrica seemed to help more.
for lack of a better explanation, lyrica is supposed to stop pain signals getting up to the brain
cymbalta suppresses the pain signals leaving the brain and getting back down

the lyrica didn't stop me feeling pain in my muscles and bones, but if you poked my arm with your finger I stopped feeling like you hit me with a baseball bat. the neurontin has me about the same place the lyrica had, but without the hunger and weight gain

the pain on a regular day is bearable. doing anything more than usual, i.e. Christmas decorating has me feeling like I've been run over by a truck. A very big, very heavy truck.

my next step is to see a pain specialist. I'd like a duragesic patch. Something where pain relief is constant. The Percocet has me riding a roller coaster of pain.

anyway.... it's amazing how many de-habilitating diseases there are out there. frustrating not only for those who suffer, but family members too.
