Oh Hudson!

I've been really busy with my new job(s). My hubby's been really good about it. He'll start super early so he can be home early, and I start only kinda early and work later.

This week I have two nights in a row that require working until 9 and one that meant I had to stay until sevenish (conferences and meetings). I know that, even with the extra time with Daddy, Hudson's having a rough time.

I try to give him as much attention as I can when I'm home, and I think that's backfiring.

This morning while I was getting ready I poured a bowl of cereal, walked to the fridge to get milk, and heard crunching right behind me. He was on the counter, three feet from me, chowing down. I yelled, ran back, and he didn't even get down and run away. He stayed, so I had to push him off with my hands.

I yelled and stood my ground (my bowl...) and he didn't back away. He kept trying to get to my bowl. It took at least two full minutes of blocking him with my body to send that message. He finally put his head down and skulked under the table.

I went back for the milk and he made another run at my bowl. I caught him by the collar and put him in his crate. I hate to do that when I'm mad, but honestly, it saved his life.

I ate breakfast, packed up my lunch, and even let Rudy (who was being sweet, respectful, and perfect the whole time) sample my ham. I know it was vindictive, but I was really irked at Hudson.

Then I let him out so they could have a final pee and he ran toward the kitchen. I cut him off, stood my ground, and he cowered his way to the door.

Once out, he headed straight for the potted plant on the deck. I told him "Get off the step" as I do every morning. He looked me right in the eye and let it flow. I ran out, barefoot, in the snow, and slid my hands down along his hips, pushing his legs together as he peed. (I've done that twice and he HATES it.)

He then ran back into the house and grabbed his toy, thinking I'd play with him. I declined, and eventually he dropped it, went outside, and tried to pee on the pot again. I yelled, he ran, and off he went to Poo Corner. (Rudy had already obediently done everything he'd been asked.)

Finally, they're both in and ready to be secured for the day. Now that there are cookies involved Hudson is the sweetest, most obedient dog, and the rest goes without incident. I crate Rudy, put Hudson in his half of the house during the day (no kitchen access), put on my socks and shoes, and head to work.

I'm sitting at my desk. No one else has arrived yet, so I'm only feeling a little guilty about posting now, and my right foot has been feeling funny since I left the house.

Remove shoe. Remove sock.

Find dried up oak leaf stuck flat against the bottom of my foot. Our deck has lots of dried up oak leaves on it.

Seriously?????

I'm so involved in World War Hudson that THIS escapes my attention until I'm at work??????

Oh my.

Tonight is my last late night this week. I can't avoid it, but I'm hoping to be home early Friday, and then devote the weekend to doing active dog-like thingies. Clearly someone needs some attention in positive ways.

And clearly someone is not shy about telling me that!

I admire Hudson, he is a terrific communicator, when you think about it. Well, after you take the foliage off of your foot you can think about how well he communicates!
hmmm. I suppose you could get him back and eat HIS food out of HIS bowl?! :cow:

well, for sure our lives are never boring, right?
