Kirby is a red/burgundy color ...
 Hello Everyone ... I haven't been on here for a while, but you all have been so helpful to me in the past. I'm not sure why, Kirby has a "reddish/burgundy/pinkish" color under his mouth, but a lot around his "potty" area. Someone in my family who raises Bullmastiffs said it was his food. (too much protein?) I feed him PRO-PLAN. I try to research and use the right grooming items, but that doesn't take it away. Do I need to change his food? Could it be yeast? I will be taking him to the vet in the next few weeks for his regular check-up, but I'm worried if I should be doing something right now ... I will appreciate any and all info you can give me ... | Without seeing a picture, that brownish tinge around and under the mouth is usually from their own saliva...and if the private parts are that tint as well, that might indicate licking in that area. One of the biggest challenges for us with OES is keeping the beard white! Lets see what others have to say... |
| I can't improve upon that Diane. Saliva is causing the pink mouth or brown mouth. Wipe often, wash often or accept it as a fact of life. (first check for something caught in teeth that might be causing drooling--not likely) No, don't worry about the protein, maybe artificial colorings but not the protein. As for back there staining, usually licking. Does he spend a great deal of time grooming himself or is he fascinated with his maleness? Once again he needs some touch up washing or at least wipings. Check for signs of infection or a rash that might explain his spending time with this foot on his head......... |
| Thanks to both of you for your quick replies. I can truly say, it's a full time job keeping Kirby's white white!!! I was just so worried about the "reddish" tinge I was seeing, I was used to the browner stain. I'll just try to work harder on it. |
Working harder will require many more nose kisses and other lovin' so he accepts it with love  |
