Starting to play with fondant.

Got up at 1:30 and it took all morning to make the fondant pieces. Made it for our family and giving out to some of our friends.

This is going on top of pumpkin cakes. it's about 8" wide for a 9" cake (I'll pipe around it).

mrs. j,
nobody seeing one of those would ever know you are world's worst decision maker. 8)
flawless creation!!!! :D
You are so creative. And probably tired from getting up at 1:30. Did you make the fondant? And is fondant edible?
1:30? isn't that just 90 minutes earlier than usual?

What a nice creation! Good job.
It looks wonderful! And secretly, I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets up at an un-godly hour to bake.
lol ...that was my thinking when I decided to get up just a "tad" earlier. haha I've been sneaking out the bedroom door w/o mr. j knowing. He'd flip if he knew how little sleep I was getting. I just hate disappointing people who expect something from me every year, and I just can't do it anymore during the day.

Yes, fondant is edible (it's just sugar) and I do make my own ...but I wrap it until I use it or it can dry out and even bleed into the icing.

guest, thanks for the BIG smile. :)

I think baking is the only thing that relaxes me and really makes me feel good inside. It used to be cleaning but i think I'm getting arthritis or something b/c my knees, ankles, fingers/toes have been real swollen every morning. :( Making it hard to go up and down our stairs ...add in usually carrying 1-2 kids at a time. (my mom has rheumatoid)

edit* originally i wrote sneaking out the bedroom window. not what i meant. that would be very odd. haha
Those are so cute!
LeAnne has been messing with it too - she's really into cupcakes these days! 8)

And I'm the reverse - I stay up late to get stuff done and then tiptoe into the bedroom!
That is beautiful, you are very talented.
That is beautiful! Great job at an early hour! :D
Very fun...such talent! :clappurple:

peg & howie
That is just beautiful Mrs. J.
Does home made fondant taste better? I bought some at the baking store and it was terribly sweet and chewie.

Very fancy!
babysheepie, I think so. ...esp marshmallow fondant

I have a good friend who makes amazing cakes. she did a blues clues notebook for my son
one year- "crayon" and all.

I wish she still lived by me. I haven't had some yummy fondant to snack on in awhile!

Wow! Thats awesome! Great job! :clappurple:

I told LeAnne about your turkey day stuff - she wanted to know if you were using the marshmallow fondant? That's what she's been making. :D
Very beautiful and delicious looking, too.

Not to interject anything remotely like nagging you but: if your joints are swollen, getting that looked after earlier rather than later is the best possible thing to do. You can avoid a lot of damage (not to mention present inconvenience and discomfort) through early treatment. You have a lot of people depending on you. Which is why you should be getting more sleep. Really. Please do. Lots of people love you and depend on you. If you want to be able to keep doing for other people, you have to start taking care of yourself.
tgir...I knowwwwwww. Mr. J keeps telling me to make an appt. I keep saying I'm too busy to make it. Ironically, I tell my mom the same thing ;)

I used normal rolled fondant for this one. :)
So, make the appointment. Really. Your husband and your mother both want you to. I am sure they will do whatever they need to to free up that time for you. Honestly, I realize the holiday season can be crazy busy, especially with young kids. But if you want to really be at your best for your family, you must take care of yourself.

P.S. I realize you and I are not the same person, but I started enjoying holidays much more when I decided that they didn't have to match some picture I had concocted inside my head. Perfect was everybody healthy and relatively happy, not sparkling clean chandeliers or shiny bathroom floors. And everybody was happier when I wasn't making myself (and them) crazy.

Just something to think about.
Good advice! I definitely "believe" it (just not sure I can change how I am) ;)

My husband emailed me a number to a rheumatologist yesterday during lunch, so.... I'll call today at lunch. Thank you. :)
So, when's your appointment?

Keep us posted, please. Your family loves you very much and needs you very much, but we all love you, too.
