I think Mattie is leaking

Troy got up the other morning and said I think someone peed. There was a round wet spot on the carpet in the bedroom. No smell, so I figured it was Mattie since her urine doesn't concentrate, and I don't think Frankie would leave a perfectly round puddle.
That night I noticed she was drinking alot something she hasn't done since she was put on her DI drops. She hasn't wanted to go outside anymore than normal and she's not squatting outside anymore than normal.
Wednesday evening I found another damp spot on the carpet in the family room. It had a gross odor to it, not like pee. Her drinking subsided last night and I haven't found any more wet spots on the carpeting. Frankie has also been very interested in sniffing her back end. More so than usual.

We have a vet appt this afternoon.
I'm wondering if increasing her thyroid meds could be causing this. She's even less active now that she's on it. Or.. is she leaving these puddles when she sleeps.
She's been very clingy with me. She even comes in the bathroom with me in the morning. As I type this she's on the couch practically on my lap. I know Sheepies are velcro dogs, but mine have never been.
She's a complicated girl.

Maybe she got a UTI?
I'd start with a urine spec and hopefully that's all that's going on. :crossed: :crossed:
I agree. Get a urine sample and take it in. Have them do a culture as well. UTI's aren't fun and the smell I remember was like strong dead fish. YUCK!
She's on female hormones, right? Plus the thyroid. Good chance it's a UTI, the clingy actions is her saying, "I hurt."

My female vet always had such compassion for Glacier and her UTIs......girl thing.
Yes strong dead fish smell. Yuck...Thank god for the steam cleaner.
We have an appt this afternoon and are taking in a urine sample.

Susan .. Yes she is on Desmopressin acetate which is some kind of a hormone.

Since her last UTI in the spring, we started her on a cranberry powder that you add to there food. I ran out a few days ago. It really must work. I started her back on it Wednesday night.

I'm off work today and she is following me everwhere. Poor baby..

Poor Mattie :ghug: :ghug:

Has she been licking herself more? That is usually a sign for Izzie. Iz has been on cranberry supplements since she was a pup. They really do seem to help. Her usual signs include frequent urination, but she can be really good at hiding it. She has had the night time leaking a few times and that has been a sign that one may be on the way.

We make a point to keep what we call "her private area" shaved down and clean. I alternate use of the clippers and scissors weekly to keep the area neat...I am always amazed at how quickly the hair grows in places you don't want it  .

Baby wipes are used a few times a day (usually after potty breaks) to wipe the area. A wash with soapy water and a wash cloth followed by a rinse about once a week helps too.

A little prevention goes a long way :D
  yeah, whenever we'd run out of cranberry powder, we'd be back at the vets. Problem was Glacier was on so many pills and potions, she'd eat around the powder and pills..or spit out the pills. She was a challenge............... Time for antibiotics and ...don't run out of powder!
Fishy smell is often anal glands... and maybe she's been licking if her anal glands were full instead of leaking?
Just a thought if the she doesn't have a UTI...
We are back from the vets office. Nothing showed up in her urine sample, and he didn't see anything that concerned him. The vet decided to do a full blood work up, because Mattie lost another 2lbs. Thats been since a week and a half ago when we were in there last. Yes they increased her throid meds, but she is no more active. If any thing she's even less active than she was. Even at daycare last week they said all she did was lay around.

So the vet wants us to bring Frankie in Sunday for a urine sample. He said sometimes a dog can have prostate problems and have an awful smelling urine. So we'll see come Sunday, what comes of Frankie appt. They also expect to have Matties blood work back and we will discuss that.

Having a female, I understand the leaking problem. We had multiple UTIs and then was put on a very low dose hormone, DEA is the short name and I can't spell the real name. Has worked wonders. No more leaking....As far as the laying around, that seems to indicate she is not feeling well. So, hope something shows up that will be of some help in her blood work.

Glad they tested Frankie too - although he doesn't sound like he is showing symptoms of anything? Good Luck. Hope things are better soon.
