Cell phone wait lot...

So I had to pick up my sister-in-law at the airport, right now as a matter of fact and found that some one at the airport was actually thinking! They have set aside a parking lot just outside called - ready for this? The cell phone wait lot!!! What a totally brilliant idea! The thought is tha folks like me who don't wait or need to actuall go into the terminal can wait here, minutes away for my passenger to call me from Baggage Claim and they'll be outside and waiting at the curb by the time I pull up. Brilliant!

Sadly, I and I'll bet thousands of other thought of this a decade ago when I had to pick up other relatives who traveled a lot. Oh well, at least it's here now.

Anyone else know of an airport ahead of the curve like our Datyon International?

The OKC airport has one too. Love it. I just text my husband when I have my baggage and he's there when I walk out the door. I agree it's super smart.
Very good idea. :bulb:

The MSP airport has a continuous loop you can circle. I usually sit curbside at the baggage claim, and make a circle if the security boots me out.....the most I've had to do is run the loop once. :D
Hi Vance,
Many airports now have cell phone lots. They are usually a little further out than the rest of the parking lots, but it doesn't matter, because you will eventually drive to the terminal to pick up your passenger.

All of the airports in the NYC metro area have cell phone lots. Some are pretty sophisticated. the cell phone lot in White Plains has a FID (Flight Information Display) that tells you when the flight is expected, or if it is delayed and when it is now arriving. Very handy.

Years ago Albuquerque set aside a side lane on the approach to the airport for cell phones. It was constantly jammed. I don't fly or go by airport any longer so don't know if they didicated a whole lot! What a smart idea.
Ft. Lauderdale airport has a cell phone lot.
Apparently I'm WAY behind the times - Mpls/St Paul airport put in a cell phone wait lot in November of 2007!

:cow:
We've had it at Akron-Canton for almost 10 years now.
Yep, Indianapolis put a cell phone lot in during their new expansion a couple years ago. Very handy. They were really strict about people driving the loop to pick up passengers at the baggage claim after 9/11 and had to do something to relieve the congestion.
yep,
we got cell phones and a 24 car parking lot now and it's a loop. 8O

they've replaced the biplanes, i miss 'em.

if you have a sheepie in the car, you can sit in front of the main exit doors about 60' from where you exit the plane. 8)

We cannot wait & have to pay between 10 & 20 pounds for a hour in the UK. Total rip off & I think its a good idea
Nashville has had a cell phone lot with an FID for about 3 years now! It is really a great place to wait and ours is not very far from passenger pick up at baggage claim. Use it all the time!
