kidney problem

Got a message this am from the vet saying that Brutus has kidney problem, she says that it's unusual in a young dog (he's 4). I tried to phone back but she was with a patient.
Has anyone had this problem with their dog? Does it get better? or do I prepare my kids (and myself) for the worse?
I'm worried :(

That's crappy - leaving a message like that! 8O

Kidney problems are typically seen as an old age issue, but that doesn't mean that younger dogs can't have issues as well. It can be from an injury, diet (or something bad they ate), medical related (as a side effect of something else going on), or just a plain kidney malfunction.

You need to get more information from the vet about what's going on.
But dogs do recover if it's a treatable reason, kidneys have the ability to "bounce back" somewhat if the problem is corrected and the damage is not too severe. And there are two - you can live just fine with one. :)
Good luck and I hope it's not serious :crossed: :crossed:
