Cambridge, 2 behavior questions

hey all,

so Cambridge is 11 weeks now. I can't believe how much he has grown. when we first brought him home we couldn't tell if he was bigger than our mini poodle or not. Now it's not even a question!

guess this will make 3 questions

1- what is the normal for growth (wt gain) weekly in the pups?

2- Cambridge will grab Coopers leash near the neck and not let go when we are outside.
How do I break him of this? I don't want to have to walk them separetly

3- Cambridge is constantly trying to hump Cooper. I know it's. dominance thing. Do I pull him off? If I want him to stop, which I do!, what is the best way to get him to NOT do this
behavior? or is it impossible to stop?

thanks!

Lori

1) there's no no set weight gain pattern - there's a pretty wide range of sizes in the breed, for one thing, so they all grow up at somewhat different rates.

2) if he likes to carry something in his mouth while walking can you get him to carry a toy instead? It doesn't always work, but the good news is the leash grabbing is usually a phase. If the toy doesn't work, I would walk them separately, even for a few days, to see if you can snap him out of it before it becomes a fun habit. Don't worry, he'll find a new, annoying habit in no time at all. They're evolving so quickly at this age.

3) Humping. I just make them stop. If a verbal won't work, I physically remove them without much fanfare. Normally the other dog would tell him off, and that's better yet. Some dogs won't do that, or, despite the size difference, Cambridge's puppy license may be in effect (license to be "bad" - most older dogs will cut puppies some slack for a while in the manners department, until the license "expires", usually without much warning and there's no set date) and so Cooper is tolerating it even though it wouldn't be tolerated under normal circumstances.

ok will try the toy in mouth thing on the walks.

Cooper really isn't giving C much puppy license. C just ignores Coopers growling, biting,
etc... I figure if Cooper doesn't want to play he'll jump up and away from C.
but when C is humping him, I think Cooper is stuck, and smushed and can't get out. I'll
keep picking C up and away for now. poor Cooper. he loves to play like an hour a day, the rest of the time I think he probably feels like I brought someone new in to torture him!!

Ain't that the truth!! Fortunately they do grow out of all their "foibles" .......by 4 or 5... years.......
Now that Cambridge is old enough, is he going to a puppy class? They are great for the pups (and the humans). He will get out, socialize with other puppies and there is usually play time built in to the class time as well.
A nice perk is you may meet someone with a puppy in class who C really likes, and you can continue play dates with them after the class has finished and as they are growing up.
I better Cooper would appreciate it too! :D
I already have my puppy signed up for 2 of them, and he's only 4 weeks old! :D
