Need a Friend

I have posted this in "Play Dates" and "Behavior" and am posting it here at another member's suggestion.

Dexter is an almost 11 months old, intact male, very playful and energetic though not aggressive at all. He hasn't seen another OES since he left his littermates so thinks he is the only one of his kind in existence. He really needs the kind of play that only another OES can provide. We live 20 miles west of downtown Ft. Worth and are willing to travel almost anywhere in the DFW area, any day of the week. His Mom still works so if it is during the week it will just be us two guys.

We know of only 1 dog park; on Beach and I-30. We have been to it during the week and had a good time though Dex was pretty shy. It is reputed to not be a good place on the weekend primarily due to the two-legged visitors. We are open to suggestions of where to meet. We've never had a canine play date and aren't sure how to do it.

He has not had a cooperative canine playmate since he left his brothers and sisters at 9 weeks, some OES nearby must want to expand their friend list.

Keep searching!! Good luck
He is adorable! I think your post on his behalf is beautiful. Sheepdogs are obviously the best but he might find good playmates in other breeds too. When mine are not playing with each other, they often don't play with other sheepdogs at our park, preferring to spar with other types of personalities. I hope he finds some good friends soon!
I wish we lived close enough to play with Dexter!!! Come on all you Texans, Dexter is "begging" for a friend :rimshot:

I agree with Val, Dexter may be able to find a playmate outside his own breed. Millie's three best friends are a blue tick beagle, a golden retriever/Samoyed mix, and a mini poodle.

Do you take him to any training classes? Maybe you could make friends there?

Well, if you can make it to St. Louis for sheepiepalooza this year Dexter will have more friends than he knows what to do with! :crossed:
Here's info for the Texas OES rescue that I copied from this forum's Home page and clicked rescues. Maybe you could contact them. Perhaps they've placed some sheepies that are nearer to your area? You may find a playmate that's been rescued and lives near you and maybe doesn't know to participate on the forum. Who knows maybe you could even foster for a temporary playmate.

There also used to be a search feature of members by location. Maybe you could search and find some Texans and pm or email them.

Also, we recently took our sheepie mix to a doggie day care and low and behold he got to play with two sheepies while there.

If you ever make it out to Vegas our Copper would play with Dexter!

Excellent suggestions :clappurple: I just want to share that Ru feels the same, there are not many sheepies here in the south east of England. He always gets kind of left out because sheepies just play differently. Hope you find some playmates!

:bulb: OR.....You could always get another sheepie yourself........ :sidestep:
We thought Doggie Day Care or boarding would be a good way to get Dexter some playmates but he is intact so will be segregated from other dogs at any of the numerous facilities in the area.

One of the rescue contacts you list has a nearby area code so I will try her. The other is in Houston which is about 5 hours away. Thanks for the recommendation.
