Friends have to send their GSD to the Bridge. :-(

A friend and her husband are sending their 11 yo GSD to the Bridge today.
Duke has lost all use of his rear legs. He can't walk or even stand up. He pulls himself around by his front legs. They have to carry him outside to potty and then hold him up while he goes. So sad.
They have him on all the supplements and some regular medications and those are just not working for him anymore. Their only option was a cart, but they felt that that just wasn't the right thing to do for him.

So they made the heart-wrenching decision Monday night to release him from his pain.

He had a big steak dinner last night for his last meal.

My heart hurts for them. What an emotional decision to have to make.

I hope they can find comfort & peace soon in Duke's memories.

Sleep tight, sweet boy. :(

The worst decision to make but the best to make. God speed Duke! Look for all our friends, I'm sure they'll have some great stories for you.

My heart goes out to your friends.

It is hard. We've had to do it for several of our dogs.....not bone cancer, just wore out their rear transmissions: Fox, Basil, Crumpet, Splash..... and it won't be long before we have to make the decision for Jack. Each day is a blessing.....he can still manage on carpets but these new vinly floors are really hard for him.
My sympathies to your friends. :ghug:
Mark, please let your friends know I'm sorry for what they are going through. Sometimes the best things are the most difficult.
Always the worst decision to have to make. Give your friends my sympathy.
Please tell your friends we have them in our thoughts. I have a candle alight to guide Duke over the Bridge. God speed Duke you will be missed. xxx

Please relay to your friends my deepest sympathies. I'm sure the decision they made for Duke was made with the most care imaginable. RIP Duke.
Having to make the decision to let a dog go whose front half is just fine is so terribly heartbreaking.
