Carting video - 6 dogs and 5 miles

Just a short video from yesterday.

We had a group of 6 dogs! That was a lot. Even with Donaven and I BOTH on the cart they still could (and did) drag us in the beginning. That's with the brakes locked! Lots of dog power.

Double lead were Gabby and Chewie, team were Abby and Rowdy. Abby has gone many times - both carting and dog sledding. She's a lab/poodle mix and a therapy dog too. Rowdy is new. He's also a therapy dog and is learning weight pull too. He's about 4 yrs old and a lab/catahoula mix - he's huge!.
Then in wheel (closest to the cart) were Biscuit and Piper. Biscuit is our 2 yr old lab. Piper is the BC mix I had posted on earlier who needed transport to MN from TX. She was in a kill shelter down there, and was pulled by Lynne the day before being euthanized. She lives with Lynne and is going to be adopted out.

We went 5 miles. Video is short because it was really bumpy!

And here are some pictures -

During the run:

Almost a twin picture...

We were working on the command "easy" on this run - getting the whole team to drop down into a trot. This is a more economical gait that they can maintain for miles - unlike a run where they tire more easily.

And then rest breaks - time to cool down and get a drink. This run had 2 rest breaks in the 5 miles.

Someone always needs to stand on the cart - for "just in case" so we don't have a run away team! This was Lynne taking her turn on the cart at breaktime... and snapping some pics too!

These last pics are minus Rowdy - he got tired and we already had picked him up. He's just learning and we always want to have the dogs have a good time - especially when learning. So he was in the van already by the time these were taken.
And Biscuit sure has figured out breaks - he plops himself down!

It was a great run, and the dogs are just loving it. They rest for 5 -10 minutes, and are barking and crazy to go again...us humans need to make the decisions for them...keeping them safe and getting in shape is our job! We have been going out twice a week. Seems to be working quite well. This run added more dogs, but we countered that by having 2 people ride on the cart - so they got a good workout still.
Donaven got video of nearly the whole run while I was driving - if he ever gets it downloaded - I'll post a longer one!
Great vid and pics. I love how they are clearly happy to be working!

Go team! :cheer: Woof!
Great video and pictures!
