Ewwwwwwwww! TICKS!

Not on Sammie, thankfully, but on our outdoor cat.

Dale mentioned after supper tonight that he felt a tick on Buddy (our #1 outdoor cat). So he went out to bring Buddy in for a check, and yowza! Not one tick - not two ticks - not three ticks - more like TEN ticks!!! Seriously! All around the bottom of his ears and neck. Most of them were the big dog ticks, but there were a few of the little deer ticks. Poor guy! But he was SO good in letting me pull them off - and thankfully they all pulled off in one piece. So off to the local pet store I went. Bought Frontline Plus, a flea comb, and a bottle of spray BioSpot for the other outdoor cats, because they won't let us pick them up and fuss over them like Buddy does. The spray can be used around their housing and bedding too, so I sprayed where they sleep. Hopefully it will be enough.

The girl at the pet store said they've been hearing a rash of complaints about fleas this fall, and that the ticks are particularly bad because it's deer mating season, so the deer are around more right now.

I have NEVER seen so many ticks on one animal before, and I truly hope to never see that many again! Just thinking about it makes my skin crawl!! Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

yeah, populations can explode. I remember when we brought home Harry from the shelter......we picked off nearly 50 ticks. He was soooo good letting these strangers work over him.

That's a lot of ticks on a cat........50 ticks on a full size dog is bad enough, but your little kitty, goodness! Do go over him every day, you probably missed a couple that were either not yet attached or just too dang small.
thank goodness the snow is coming to KILL the nasty bugs :yay:

God Bless you guys.. I can't take ticks off pets or people. I get the heebie jeebies!! I don't even know why. The vets here on a board I go to have been saying the outbreak here of ticks has been out of control. Glad you found them and hope Buddy feels better now.
Unfortunately, the cold will not kill all the ticks. If that were
the case there would be none for next year.
It will thin them out, and they won't be active in the cold,
but they will still be there. That's why they recommend we use
flea/tick control all year long.
Ticks are disgusting- and I can't think of any good reason for
them to exist! unholy ugly little creatures.
