I just want vacuum!

At first it was cute, then it was funny but now it's really getting hard to get any vacuuming done at all! Clyde gets right in front of the vacuum and goes nuts barking and now he bites at the hose on the side, as if attacking it will make it stop. I told him they were going to look at me funny if I have to take it in for service with bite marks all over it, but, believe it or not, he didn't find this convincing enough to stop. With 2 big fuzzy dogs, you can imagine my need for frequent vacuuming. Does/has anyone else had this problem and how do I make it stop?!

 I vacuum right over Luke and Rosco because they won't move, Beau leaves any room containing a vacuum and Daisy just looks annoyed.

Just kidding about Luke and Rosco :D
My husband teased Mopsy with the "doggy getting machine" when she was little so she comes running whenever she hears us getting the vaccuum out (which is not often enough). After a few obnoxious barks and lunges and being told to go lay down, she grabs Teddy and starts sucking again. Then when you vaccuum her bed you tell her to move (one word she actually obeys) and she grabs Teddy and moves. Then when you tell her your finished she and Teddy get back on the bed. Mops is all about routine.
At 8 years old Tasker STILL goes nuts when the vacume is on. I've learned to ignore it, or to put him outside. I have no idea why, he has never been teased with it and since I vacume almost every day you would think he'd be used to it by now. Nope!!! My new puppy ignores the whole thing. Must be genetic :D
Beau does that too. The other day I heard him barking like crazy and went to see what it was about....I'd left the vacuum sitting in a corner (normally in a closet) and he was barking at it! Not even plugged in! He just doesn't like it. I have to put him outside when I vacuum if I really want to get any serious cleaning done. Of course, five minutes after he's back inside, it's all for naught!
Dancer was fine with vacuuming until I got a new one, it is an upright, with lights etc, and she doesn't like it when it's not running, so I always crate them when I am cleaning anyway. Sky doesn't seem to care either way, she is curious about it and gets in the way, that's about it. LOL
Oh, do I know your frustration! Oscar thinks the vacuum is a giant toy, so he bounds around it, usually in front of it, barking like crazy. Now I put him in a "down stay" on the landing of the stairs, so that he can see me the whole time, but he stays put until I free him. The first few times I tried this, he got up a million times, but I just kept putting him back down. It helped to keep his leash on him, in order to grab him to return him to the landing. Anyway, persistence paid off and now I can vacuum without a major meltdown. (This also worked for mopping too!) Good luck!
Zoey dislikes our vaccuum, but doesn't attack it. She just barks and runs around wildly, so we can get the work done. Brooms are another story. Forget about sweeping anything. She pounces and dives on those things and starts tearing them up. If I swing the broom in a circle around me about waist high I can make Zoey jump up and down like a dolphin at Seaworld. She just follows the broom and jumps.

We bought her a little broom of her own so when we sweep we give it to her. It worked, she stopped attacking our broom and chomped away on her own. However, I don't recommend this tactic cause if your dog is like Zoey, she'll go through brooms mighty quickly which tends to get expensive, not to mention mighty messy.
Bo0die also attacks our vacuum He barks at it and trys to bite the bag. He also dislikes mops, dust clothes, rakes, sponges and shovels. Strangely enough he does not mind our riding mower! I usually put him in his crate to clean . My last OES did not mind the vacuum at all, Icould vacuum right up to his nose! I Hope Bodie out grows this.
My OES son, Jake, has always "herded" the vaccum. He chases, barks and goes wild in general. I am thinking it is a "sheepie" thing to do
My Max and Falcore too try to protect me from the vacuum monster. At least that is how we explain it to company. Why else would two 100 lb dogs attack the vacuum. My border collie, Junior, doesn't bark at it but he hides under the tables and sneak attacks it when It gets near. Go figure
Usually I only vacuum when Max is crated, but this thread had me curious, so I vacuumed with Max loose and basically it just got him super stirred up. He was running around and then he'd stop right in front of it and bark and then get up and run around it some more. When he started to get interested in the cord, I decided to turn it off! Maybe when he's older I'll get more done with him assisting me
