Kneading like a cat?

Hello all!
We have had Max since he was a puppy and he is now almost two years old. He's such a great addition to our family and is very loved especially by my two children (ages 4 and 12). One thing that I have noticed that he does strikes me as very odd. I wonder if any of your dogs do this too, or is Max just special.
First of all, Max has a two stuffed animals that are his (well, he made them his, they were my little girl's initially) and when he is laying on the floor he usually has one of his "babies" in between his paws and rests his head on them. Here in the last six months, I have noticed that he is gently nipping at the stuffed animal while kneading his front paws like a cat would. I have watched him do this on many occassions. He has never chewed on either of these two stuffed animals that he has "adopted" as his babies. Although he has never been aggressive when my kids have snatched these babies away from him trying to play with him, Max does make it known that those aren't to be played with. Is this crazy or has anyone that has an OES experienced this?
Oh, and we do not have cats and Max has never been around cats so he would not have seen a cat kneading to be able to mimic this behavior.
Any thoughts?

Heart does this when she is stressed or tired...She will take her stuffie and suck the nose while kneading...We call it her Happy Place. Her eyes glaze over and she is somewhere else :hearts: ....I find it very endearing.....
Awww..sweet :D

Cats do it because they are contented and happy, which is why they purr at the same time. Id say dogs do it because they are contented but they dont make a purr sound. Other than that i dont know. Putting a watch or clock that make a ticktock sound makes them think they are with mom, as it sounds like their heart beating. :P
Ive never seen bloo do it, the cats do it though. He copys everything they do including trying to jump on the tortoise cage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I appreciate the feedback! I am glad to know that your Heart does the same thing. And Max is in his happy place to when he does this, too. Our family has only had labs as pets until we got Max.....what great dogs Sheepdogs are!
