Not sure what to do with my sweet puppy

I'm not exactly sure where to post this so I will put it here and see if anyone has any suggestions.     We are looking for a new home for our sweet 1 year old Old English Sheepdog, Oliver (Ollie). He is a wonderful dog. He just turned 1 in September and is full blooded, with papers to register, though we haven't done so yet. He is incredibly sweet and completely housebroken. The reason we are looking for a new home for Ollie is because he was being walked twice a day and played with by a family member who is no longer able to do so because of health reasons. He is now at home all day while we work and I feel he is not getting enough exercise or interaction. He needs at least an hour of exercise a day. He is cut short but maintenance is a commitment that a new owner must be willing to make. He needs brushed at least once every other day. We prefer he goes to a family with experience with Old English Sheepdogs. He is over 80 pounds now, and may continue to grow for a few months. His mother was around 90 pounds and his father was 100 pounds. He is a beautiful dog and very affectionate. He is great around children and does well with other dogs. He is very protective of his home so should be watched around neighbors or anyone else who may enter your home, though he has never so much as nipped someone. He is not neutered, but at his last vet visit one of his testicles had not yet dropped so it was recommended that he was neutered before he turned 2 years old. If the testicle does not drop, it will cost slightly more to neuter him because they will have to go into his abdomen to remove the testicle. We were told this may cost about $30-$50 more than a 'normal' neutering. He is up to date on all vaccinations and has no health problems that we are aware of (other than the testicle that has not descended, which does not pose a risk that we are aware of). Only serious inquiries will be considered and questionnaires must be filled out by any potential adoptees. We love Ollie very much and won't give him to someone who can not handle a dog of this size and maintenance needs.

Have you been in contact with the breeder? In a past post you state that Ollie came from a reputable breeder, so she will probably want him back.

Otherwise, you can contact a rescue that will make sure Ollie has a very good home.

These are the only suggestions I have. You do not say if you are trying to sell him or just give him free to a good home.

just for your information, this forum does not allow selling of dogs.

Hopefully, Ollie will find a home that will be his furever home. :tea:
Oh that is so sad! You didn't say where you live but in my area, there are tons of "dogwalkers" who will take dogs out for exercise and socialization while their owners are at work. We also have doggie daycares where your dog can play all day. These are great options but can be pricey. I agree with Val that your first step should be to talk to the (reputable) breeder from whom you got him. I also strongly believe that rescue organizations are the best qualified to help place sheepdogs who need a new home. I've gotten 2 sheepdogs via rescue and both were a really great fit for me but I could see why they might not have been for someone else. Good luck with your sweet boy -- I hope you and the breeder or rescue can find him a great home.
Where are you located? There are many sheepie rescues that will be extremely careful about placing your pup. Breeder first, like others have said.
We did contact the breeder but she seemed unwilling to take him back, which was a surprise to me. I'm not interested in selling him, I just want to make sure he goes to a good home. We are in WV and I posted this same information on a OES rescue site but haven't gotten any feedback. We don't have doggie daycares in my area, unfortunately, and I am not comfortable with someone I don't know having my security code to get in my house to walk him.

What does you contract say?

Unwilling doesn't cut it. If an OESCA breeder <?> we sign a code of ethics that states we'll be there for the life of the dog. If he came from a reputable breeder it's not rescue's problem to see to his wellbeing. Will the breeder work with you in placing him at least?

Quite honestly, I'm single, I work and my dogs survive - there are ways to handle that. But I sense you've made up your mind, and you obviously have a good understanding of what you're looking for in a home. Hopefully breeder will at least help you on that count. I'm guessing it's not super urgent and he's not out on his hairy tushie tomorrow in any event? If you can take the time you'll have a better chance at finding him a good home, and it's actually to his advantage not to get bounced around too much (foster homes and such), if you can manage that.

Good for you for disclosing the undescended testicle and protectiveness. Fingers crossed for him. :crossed:

I am sorry you are in this position, it is a hard decision

I am in NC and do OES rescue. I am not sure what OES Rescue board you are speaking of, I have never heard of it.
Where in WV are you?
I am sure we can work something out to help you.
