Ticks are the scum of the Earth!!!

I'm absolutely freaking out.

My fiancé was petting Nanook last night and said he felt a mat on his head. As I had just brushed him out, I rolled my eyes and went to check. It felt like he had a couple of burrs stuck together in his fur, so I grabbed and pulled. Well, it was definitely a tick. :twitch: It completely grossed me out.

It was white and only partially engorged, but still huge. Definitely not a dog tick, which is what I'm used to seeing. I pull ticks at work all the time, but the shock of grabbing this one with my bare hands without knowing what it was almost made me hurl! :twitch:

Anyway, I got the entire thing out, and I've been keeping an eye on the spot, but now I'm panicking. First of all, I'm now terrified that he has more, and I've been patting him down every half hour or so. On top of that, I'm terrified that he's going to get some kind of disease. Should I be panicking? What should I look for as far as symptoms??

Thanks for listening to me babble. I'm still totally disgusted right now. And I'm hoping that Nanook is okay. :crossed: :crossed: :crossed:

The weird thing is, the tick was literally on the top of his head, just to the side of the bony lump at the back of his skull. I thought that was the strangest place.

Oscar gets ticks on his head as well, and I think they come from him sniffing the grass. The tick starts out on an ear or his chin, and work their way up. UGH is right!!!!!! Are you using a preventive right now? I am used to the brown tick here, but I found a deer tick on Oscar a couple of weeks ago....on his eyebrow! They are so flipping tiny! It was attached, but not engorged. I hit Oscar with Frontline Plus immediately. (Getting the creeps just thinking about it.)

Nanook is on Frontline, but it needs to be reapplied on the 28th, so I'm thinking that maybe it was just because he was so close to the end of his month? Either way, I applied it immediately. I do not mess around with ticks.

And whatever kind of tick was on him was pretty big. It wasn't even fully engorged yet, but it was easily the size of my pinkie nail. Compared to the ticks I pull at work, it was huge!
Ticks naturally migrate upward to the top of whatever they are on.......that way they can catch a ride if they move on. Think spiders casting their string out into space to catch a breeze...tho ticks don't have the string.....

Yeah, ticks are the scum of the earth. Always a surprise especially if you've been using a tick preventative.....but nothing works 100%. Did you very carefully examine the immediate area? Sometimes there's a "consort" nearby........or "friend." Not always, thankfully. If he picked up one, there might be a few more, but hopefully this was an isolate tresspasser.

Good to immediately apply the tick preventative.......die you sucker!
I've checked him a couple of times since I found it, and I haven't found anymore. Regardless, I want to have him professionally groomed this week/weekend just in case. He needs it anyway, and it would make me feel better if someone else gave him a really good once over.
