Incontinence or Something Else?

Our OES (Milton) is about four-and-a-half years old. He's completely house trained but ever since he was a young dog he's been known to have "accidents" inside the house. They occurred so infrequently (maybe once a year), that we just assumed it was a fluke and never thought much of it.

We moved into a new house about 4 months ago and he's done it once or twice again. Again, we chalked it up to new surroundings etc. We did take him to the vet about a month ago and they said he's clear of any urinary tract infection. Because it happens so infrequently they told us to basically keep an eye on him. A

All was well until last night when he was just standing in our living room and pee'd everywhere. He obviously doesn't know he's doing it so I made sure not to get mad at him. He did it again this morning so again we took him to the vet. He's having an Ultrasound on Tuesday next week.

Does anyone have any experience with this kind of thing? The issue is basically odd bouts of incontinence. The only other detail I can provide is that it usually occurs after he's just been outside and already went to the bathroom. Last night we took him out, and five minutes later he went everywhere. There are no issues with him going in his sleep or when he is excited.

Tonks does this, and has ever since she was a small puppy. We've had her ultra-sounded and it turned up nothing unusual. It used to happen 2 or 3 times a year- she'd wake up in a puddle of her own pee, or she'd be standing and suddenly urine would be pooling around her feet, running down her legs. She was obviously unaware of it happening.

About a 2 years ago it went from being 2-3 times a year to once a week or more, with no indicator of why it suddenly increased. Our vet put her on Proin- we had to give her a very high dose to get it to stop- 2 pills a day. Once it was under control for a good amount of time - maybe a year- we went about decreasing her dosage a half pill at a time. She's now down to only 1 pill, and is due for me to try reducing it again in a month or so.

We never did find out the cause, but she hasn't done it in over 18 months, do I think we've followed the right path!
Could be a kidney infection.
I agree with the kidney infection thought and glad you are having further testing. My female had a problem with this and was put on a low dose hormone every other day. But not sure if males would be treated the same way as with my female, as it was explained to me, its more to do with anatomics and loose sphicter muscles...

Does he drink excessive amounts of water? Not sure what the symptoms are of diabeties so will let others chime in on that. All in all, I think you are right to proceed with further testing. Good Luck...
