Nash is being a tool!

My new sheepie Nash is 9 weeks today, but I feel like we are starting off on the wrong paw.

Every time I try to get him to NOT bite me, or important objects, (or especially me,) he growls and becomes extremely irritated. My breeder said it is just a phase, but it has gotten worse and I am afraid it will become a habit for the future. He also insists on going back to the object after I say no multiple times!
He growls at me when I try to discipline him as well. For example today he ran after some one and when loosely grabbed his collar he growled at me.

Also, I am having a bizarre experience with housebreaking. He will go outside and we spend about five or so minutes out there. Then, I will get him back into the house and he will go again!! aaah!

I feel like the more I discipline him, the more he is hating me! & I definitely do not want that

help!!

Lori...I am so sorry you are having a difficult time with your Nash. I don't have any great advice, but some suggestions....

Although he is still too young to go to a puppy class, maybe you can begin training him at home.
Sit, down, come, stay, leave it...etc..any time you can get him to focus on you, you are defining your relationship as THE BOSS. Find a 'bliss' point for Nash...a very yummy treat, a favorite ball or stuffie and use that to lure him to 'listen' to you.

For all naughty things he does, either ignore the behavior or calmly put him in his crate for a time out. You may want to try to get a trainer to come to your home for a couple of private lessons. It sounds like Nash is thinking that HE is ALPHA and you may need help to show him he is wrong!!!!!!!! 8O

Finally,,,,,I tired puppy is a good puppy. Is he getting enough exercise? Even though he is young, too young for long walks or runs, maybe games in the back yard. Fetch, catch, chase???? Anything to get him tired may help.

Good Luck!!! I am sure you will get many more suggestions from this forum!! They are all SOOOO smart and know sheepies inside and out!!!!

:D
Val,
I started training from day one (that might be the problem)
He is starting to get it. Like, when I say "no!" he will stop chewing and just bark at what he was chewing :) He's such a silly boy! Luckily I don't have any valuables on the floor!

Also, I am giving time-outs in the bathroom instead of the crate since I finally got him to like going in his crate. I hope he isn't finding fun stuff to do in the bathroom though! Its supposed to be "punishment"!
Lauren...

If he is anything like Heart, she would have considered bathroom time,,,,,,heaven!!!! She has a very common toilet paper fettish...and paper towel fettish...and kleenex fettish.....
