We had to miss a show today.....

 I was supposed to show Teddy in Freeport, IL this morning but my truck had other ideas. Battery died. I've had the truck for a little over 5 years and it picked today to say "I'm done". I was supposed to leave at 5:30am for the show because it's a 2 and a half hour drive from here. We were due in the ring at 11am and the main reason I entered this show was for the "Best Puppy" competition later in the day, so I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I figured it would start with a jump but I didn't want to take a chance and get stuck away from home if it was that close to needing a new battery. So I went back to bed and called AAA at 9am and then went to Sears for a new Die-hard battery which is good for 9 years. So I shouldn't need to buy another battery for this truck. (In theory anyway)

Well, at least Teddy is all nice and clean. :D

Sorry you missed you show, but you did get to go back to bed. :wag:
Oh no! "What unfortunate timing, truck?!" Your truck it very cool though. I would like to own one like that someday when we move to the suburbans  .
What is the gas milage?
I always look at this stuff like this... Be glad it happened in your driveway and not 100 miles from home. Sure, you have AAA, but the inconvenience of this happening away from home would suck.

The last issue I had with my Trooper was oddly enough, leaving Tipp City, headed south on I75. A mile or so onto the interstate I shifted into 5th gear and the clutch let loose. So I found myself sitting on the shoulder, on a VERY hot and humid Saturday afternoon with Jen and Zoey. My first thought was how to get them home safely. AAA supplied a wrecker, (driven by a co-worker of mine who did this on the weekends for extra cash!). I had my buddy Dave in route in case the wrecker couldn't carry Zoey and Jen. Luckily the wrecker was a 5 seat cab.

Sorry to hear you missed the show. Make an evening of it and take Teddy out for a night on the town! I hear he likes ice cream...

Vance
So, are you going tomorrow?

Bummer about today :( :(

Thanks Joanna, I love my Avalanche. The gas milage is about 15 mpg around town and about 19 or 20 on the highway. Not good but not bad for a big truck.

No Dawn, not going tomorrow. I only entered for today because of the puppy competition.

Yes Vance, I thought the same thing. I'm glad it happened when I was home.

From what I've seen, Teddy didn't have to travel to be Best Puppy

Thanks Judi! Yes, I'm glad it didn't happen elsewhere.

Cindy
I agree Teddy doesn't need a competition for us to know he's "Best Puppy".

I especially like his markings :hearts: . He looks like he's wearing pants from the front and I LOVE that!

I'm glad the breakdown happened in your driveway and that you guys were safe.
^^^^ ME TOO! I'm glad I wan't the only person calling it "Teddy's Pants,"
Sorry about the truck, but a nice opportunity to relax, romp, snuggle and repeat. Sometimes, the best laid plans...
Our car's battery just died 3 months out of warranty. Amazing.

AAA jumped Joan and she drove it home. It took me nearly 6 hours to get it restarted the next day to drive to Sears; combination of completely shorted battery and bad connection to the battery I had to charge first. sigh.

The double sigh is my brother tells me that AAA providers will sell you a new battery right from their truck... I was surprised at that and he wasn't sure if you needed to tell them that before they came out or if all providers will do that.
Yes, the AAA rep told me that on the phone but didn't know what kind it would be. I figured since I had already missed the show I might as well get the Die-hard battery. I've always had good luck with them since I started using that brand. I knew I would probably need a new battery before winter but this was certainly unexpected!

Cindy
Just sayin' that if you had known that when you first discovered the dead truck, you probably would have called AAA and had a new battery and been on your way. :D :( :D
This is true if I would have called at 5am and known that ahead of time.

Cindy
I lamented it the whole 6 hours I was trying to get the blasted thing started. Thanks Brother! :D lol

The first 100 years are the hardest, ya know?
