Hello from the UK

Hello everyone, I've just joined your lovely forum and have been looking at all your beautiful pictures. They're making me feel really broody. We've had sheepies for 31 years, and have recently lost our 3rd to a horrible, aggressive & invasive oral tumour. As you can all imagine, we're devastated by our loss.

Our 3 boys have all been special in their own way, but Harry was extra special. He'd had a horrible start in life, was very neglected, matted, flea ridden and half starved when he came to us via the OES Rescue here in England. He became an extremely handsome boy, whom we absolutely adored. He had a few behavioural issues, was possessive of his food, and didn't like us cuddling, but hey, it was all part of his charm.

The lady at the rescue said he wasn't a typical OES pup, and to a certain extent, he wasn't. We didn't have any of the terrible two's with him, what we affectionately called their 'jubilant delinquent' phase, he was a great house dog, and he absolutely adored our son, his big brother :excited:

He was always happy to guard the house for us when we went out, and was calm and patient when we got home. We moved house a few months ago, and he became unsettled when we left him. We didn't realise at the time, that his change in behaviour must have been to do with the cancer. The tumour didn't appear until a few days before his death. The vet did a biopsy, and unfortunately he had a bad reaction to the anaesthetic, and went in to heart failure the following day. We rushed him straight to the surgery, but there was nothing they could do to help him, and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to end his suffering. It was a few days later that we got the biopsy results, so we were relieved he'd been spared the pain.

The house is empty without him, we miss him terribly, but we console ourselves that he had a good life with us, and was nearly 12 when he died. We desperately want another, and will opt for a rescue, as unfortunately there are quite a few always needing a good home.

I'll hopefully be able to post a picture when we welcome another sheepie in to our home, in the meantime, I'll console myself looking at all your beautiful boys and girls. :wag:

12! What a wonderful, long life for a sheepie! You gave Harry a great life, I'm sure, especially after his rough start. Welcome to our little corner of the internet- thanks for joining us, and for giving Harry the wonderful life, and love, that you did!
Thank you so much for your kind words, it really does help knowing that other people know exactly how you feel, and a big hello to my fellow Brits!
